It's better to be respected than liked. Being very old and wise (excuse me...coughing fit) let me say there are two types of leaders. Those that lead by example (respect), individuals that possess some innate quality that makes people want to follow. Also there are people that lead by fiat (my way or the highway). The second type really have no place in management...they tend to cause dissention and bad feelings and do the company no real good in the long run. Another very good article...upvoted!
Oh I'd always prefer the first one - both being in the position of the leader himself and being led.
