Music to our ears: Scrobble editing is now available to LFM subscribers.

For years, users of last.fm have been clamouring for the ability to edit scrobbles--and this week, it's finally arrived for real. If there's been any incentive for an LFM subscription (or hanging on to one) since that not-so-well-received August 2015 interface revamp, then this may as well be it.

The new scrobble-editing feature is a boon to those who've had to put up with inaccurate/incorrect listings, or even worse, what Spotify provides--all that "Remastered" flotsam and whatever else. (This Captain had his share of the former back in summer 2015, when he started scrobbling in earnest after Grooveshark got harpooned.) On the other hand, those with many thousand scrobbles will practically spend an eternity cleaning up their stats--but not if a few developers and their scripts can help it.

To edit your scrobbles:

  • Log in with your last.fm account (remember, you must be a subscriber)
  • At the right of the target track's "Buy" button, select the down arrowhead
  • Select "Edit scrobble"--but please be careful with the "Delete scrobble" button nearby! (Deletions are irretrievable.)
  • In the "Edit scrobble" dialog, you may see a message in an orange box that reads: "You have artist and track corrections set to ON, which means corrections may be applied to any edits you make. Originally scrobbled artist and track titles are shown in the input boxes below."
  • These boxes correspond to the "Track", "Artist", "Album", and "Album Artist" fields, one or more of which can be changed. (The Timestamp below is permanent.)
  • To save your changes, select "Save edit"; otherwise, hit "Cancel". ("They are applied straight away," says Official Rep Laura in the official Get Satisfaction announcement.)
  • As Laura also reminds us, "When you have corrections enabled, bear in mind that they may be applied to your edits (this means what you enter may not be what you see after saving your changes)."
  • Also: "It is not possible to change just the upper or lower casing of names, due to how these are stored in our database." (First time always wins out, unfortunately; there's a reason the old LFM once sported a tag-correction service, but good luck getting that to work at this writing!)

Well, folks, you know where this is going: I'll subscribe, with my Christmas gift card, any minute from now, and report back on the matter soon. Until then, happy listening!

P.S. I scrobble occasionally as "Routhwick", but that log's heavily reserved for the playlists and setlists the Adanson crew from my forthcoming Unspooled series serves up, as well as the soundtracks from the six volumes themselves. If you scrobble too, then please leave your handle in the comments and we'll connect if possible.
