The last supper?

There is a bit of glurge running around the internet that claims the title or the Olympics opening celebration was “La Cène sur la scène sur la Seine”. (The Last Supper on a stage on the Seine”)

If it were true, it would be a clever pun, since “La Cène” and “la scène” and “la Seine” are all pronounced the same.

It also is being used by religious folks to “prove” that the Dionysus scene was mocking Christians. The problem with that hypothesis is that there doesn’t appear to be any mention of that title anywhere in any official Olympic materials… not even in a screenshot.

I’ve seen that pun bantered about by Internet wits, but not one shred of evidence that links is to the IOC. The only evidence I can find from the IOC is the post pictured above.

(The “absurdity of violence between human beings” refers to the lyrics of the song being sung by the blue Dionysus character)
