"I remember last summer very well ... it was on a Thursday!"
The Finns among themselves have plenty of sayings and jokes related to their summer. Even if it is not quite so extreme of course, there are some differences between the land in the far north and e.g. Germany in Central Europe.
The curvature of our beautiful planet brings with it certain circumstances regarding the seasons. While in December, around the winter solstice, the days in southern Finland have less than 2 hours of daylight than the Germans, you can observe the opposite in summertime.
In June you can actually see the sun still after midnight in the sky and even later in August, where my picture was taken, you have it with view to the north even after 10 pm still on the horizon. At about the same time I was once 700 km further north, in Lapland, and there you can actually see them for 24 hours.

For some tourists this can be annoying at night, because the brightness disturbs. The Finns, on the other hand, absorb every ray of light, because they know that the hard and dark winter comes quicker than you think.

Die Finnen untereinander haben reichlich Sprüche und Witze, die sich auf ihren Sommer beziehen. Auch, wenn es ganz so extrem natürlich nicht ist, gibt es doch einige Unterschiede zwischen dem Land im hohen Norden und z.B. Deutschland in Mitteleuropa.
Die Krümmung unseres schönen Planeten bringt gewisse Umstände hinsichtlich der Jahreszeiten mit sich. Während im Dezember, um die Wintersonnenwende die Tage im Süden Finnlands über 2 Stunden weniger Tageslicht haben, als die Deutschen, kann man in der Sommerzeit das entsprechende Gegenteil beobachten.
Im Juni sieht man tatsächlich die Sonne noch nach 24 Uhr am Himmel und selbst später im August, wo mein Bild entstanden ist, hat man sie mit Blick gen Norden auch nach 22 Uhr noch am Horizont. Ich war zu etwa der gleichen Zeit auch schon mal 700 km weiter nördlich, in Lappland, und dort kann man sie tatsächlich 24 Stunden lang sehen.

Für manch einen Touristen kann das nachts nervig sein, weil die Helligkeit stört. Die Finnen hingegen saugen jeden Lichtstrahl auf, weil sie wissen, dass der harte und dunkle Winter schneller da ist, als man denkt.
