Suramadu Bridge
Suramadu National Bridge is a bridge across the Madura Strait, connecting Java Island (in Surabaya) and Madura Island (in Bangkalan, precisely east Kamal), Indonesia. With a length of 5438 m, this bridge is the longest bridge in Indonesia today. Suramadu bridge consists of three parts: the causeway, the bridge approach, and the main.
This bridge was officially opened by President Megawati Soekarnoputri on August 20, 2003 and inaugurated its opening by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on June 10, 2009 [3]. the construction of this bridge is intended to accelerate development on Madura Island, covering infrastructure and economic sector in Madura, which is relatively lagging compared to other areas in East Java Province. Estimated cost of this bridge construction is 4.5 trillion rupiah.
Bridge making is done from three sides, both Bangkalan side and Surabaya side. Meanwhile, simultaneously also carried out the development of the middle span consisting of main bridge and approach bridge.
