The Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the most beautiful and visited places in the world! There is a place there called Welch Ridge that was named by my husband's Welch family who helped found WNC, and owned a lot of the property overlooking Fontana Lake. We plan on going to that big, wonderful lake soon, and I will post pics of it! There is a Welch Cemetery on the other side of Fontana Lake that can only be reached by boat. It is a gorgeous area that is rich in Native American & Pioneer history. My husband is about 1/4 Native American from the proud Natives of this land!

There's no question how this park got its name! Are house boats popular at Fontana Lake? Looks like a great lake for skiing and fishing.
Yes, there are houseboats for rent on Fontana Lake, and people ski and fish on the lake! :)
Smokey Mountains NP is really beautiful. I'd love to visit there soon :)

Yes, all of these bring fond memories to me, and I wish I knew more about my ancestors who were among to first to settle in these mountains .My fifth great grandfather Thomas Welch owned a lot of land above Fontana Lake. I do know they had good taste.
