① 9쪽짜리 논문으로 비트코인 탄생

비트코인의 시작은 9쪽짜리 논문이었다. 비트코인 개발자로 알려진 사토시 나카모토는 2008년 10월31일 인터넷에 '비트코인: P2P 전자화폐시스템'이라는 이름의 논문을 발표했다. 이 글에서 사토시는 인터넷을 기반으로 한 여러 네트워크상에 서로의 가치를 교환할 수 있는 프로토콜의 가능성에 대해 논했고, 그렇게 탄생한 것이 최초의 암호화폐(가상화폐)인 비트코인이다.

The beginning of the Bitcoin was with a 9-page paper. Satoki Nakamoto, known as Bitcoin developer, published a paper on the Internet on October 31, 2008, entitled Bitcoin: P2P Electronic Money System. In this paper, Satoshi discusses the possibility of a protocol for exchanging the values of each other on various networks based on the Internet, and it is the Bitcoin that is the first cipher (virtual currency) that was born.

② 피자 한판에 1400억원?...비트코인 피자 데이

암호학자를 중심으로 비트코인의 가능성은 일찍부터 주목받았지만, 일반인들에게는 무관심의 대상이었다. 그러다 2010년 5월22일, 비트코인이 화폐로서의 가치를 갖게 되는 '역사적인 순간'이 왔다. 미국 플로리다주의 프로그래머 라스즐로 핸예츠가 파파존스 피자 2판을 배달시키고, 1만 비트코인으로 값을 지불한 것이다. 국내에서 최고점을 찍었던 지난 1월 7일 비트코인 가격을 적용하면 피자 한 판의 가격은 1400억원이 넘는다. 당시 일을 기념하기 위해 암호화폐 이용자들은 매년 5월22일을 '비트코인 피자 데이'로 부른다.

A Florida programmer, Laszlo Hoyets, delivered two pizza from the Papa John's and paid a 10,000-Bitcoin.

To commemorate the day, Cryptocoin users call May 22nd every year as 'Bitcoin Pizza Day'.

③ 역사상 단한번...비트코인 오류 발생
The only one and only made mistake from Bitcoin

2010년 8월 비트코인 시스템의 불안정성 탓에 1840억 비트코인이 생성되는 일이 발생했다. 이 비트코인들은 두 개의 계좌에 나뉘어 전송됐다. 한 시간이 채 되지 않아 거래 기록에서 이 거래들이 지워졌고 버그가 수정된 비트코인 프로토콜이 업데이트 됐다. 이것이 유일하게 알려진 비트코인 시스템 오류다. 그 이후로는 한번도 (알려진) 오류가 없다.

In August 2010, the instability of the Bitcoin system caused 184 billion Bitcoins to be generated. These Bitcoins were sent in two accounts. In less than an hour, these transactions were cleared from the transaction record and the Bitcoin protocol with bug fixes was updated. This is the only known Bitcoin system error. There is no (known) error ever since.

④ 비트코인의 동생, 이더리움 탄생
The birth of 'Ethereum'

러시아 이민자 출신 캐나다인 비탈릭 부테린은 2014년 비트코인의 동생격인 이더리움을 개발, 블록체인업계에 새로운 지평을 열었다. 비트코인이 중개기관 없이 이용자끼리 서로 믿고 가치를 주고받을 수 있는 프로토콜을 도입했다면, 이더리움은 이를 넘어 블록체인을 기반으로 다양한 서비스를 구현할 수 있는 토대를 마련했다는 평가를 받고 있다. 이후 이더리움 기술을 기반으로 한 블록체인 프로젝트가 속속 등장하게 된다.

Russian immigrant Canadian Vitaly Buterin opened a new horizon in the blockchain industry in 2014 by developing Etherium, Bitcoin's younger brother. If Bitcoin adopts a protocol that allows users to trust each other and exchange value without an intermediary, Etherium is evaluated as a basis for building various services based on the block chain. The blockchain project based on Etherium technology will come out one after another.

⑤ 5400억원의 피해...마운틴곡스 해킹
540 billion won damage - MT. GOX hack through

암호화폐의 가장 대표적인 사고는 2014년 2월 세계 최대 비트코인 거래소였던 일본의 마운틴곡스(Mt.Gox)가 해킹을 당한 사건이다. 마운틴곡스는 정체를 모르는 해커에게 물량의 80%를 도난당했다. 이는 당시 가격으로 4억7700만 달러(약 5400억원)에 해당하는 금액이다. 이 사건으로 마운틴곡스는 파산했고, 비트코인의 가격은 4개월 사이 70%나 폭락하며 한동안 '암흑기'를 맞아야 했다.

One of the most common accidents in the world of cryptocurrency is the hacking of Mt.Gox in Japan, which was the world's largest coin exchange in February 2014. Mt.Gox were stolen 80 percent of the volume by unknown hackers. It was worth $ 477 million (about 540 billion won) at the time. Mt.Gox broke down in this case, and the price of Bitcoin fell by 70% in four months and had to be in the dark period for a while.

⑥ 중국 ICO 전면 금지
Chinese ICO were banned by their government

암호화폐 열풍은 우리나라보다 중국에서 먼저 불었다. 그런데 ICO(가상화폐공개)에 막대한 자금이 몰리고 거래량이 폭증하는 등 과열 기미가 보이자 중국은 아예 싹을 제거해 버렸다. 중국 정부에서 지난해 9월 투자자 보호와 금융시장 안정을 이유로 ICO를 통한 자금모집을 금지하고 중국 내 모든 암호화폐 거래소를 폐쇄하기로 결정한 것이다.

The cryptocurrency craze blew up first in China than in our country. However, when the ICO was flooded with tremendous funds and the volume of transactions increased, there was a feeling of overheating, and China had completely removed the buds. The Chinese government decided in September last year to ban fundraising by ICO on the grounds of investor protection and financial stability and to shut down all of the cryptocurrency exchanges in China.

⑦ 비트코인 1만 달러 돌파
Bitcoin $10,000?

중국과 한국 정부의 규제를 비웃듯 지난해 11월 29일 비트코인 가격이 처음으로 1만 달러를 돌파했다. 9000달러를 돌파한 지 불과 3일 만이었다. 지난해 초 1000달러 초반에서 2000달러에 이르기까지 약 5개월이 걸렸지만 5000달러에서 1만 달러까지는 두 달이 채 걸리지 않았다.

⑧ 2017년 12월 비트코인 선물거래

단기간에 비트코인 가격이 폭등한 데는 2017년 12월 미국 시카고상품거래소(CME)와 시카고옵션거래소(CBOE)에서 비트코인 선물 거래를 시작한 것이 적지 않은 영향을 미쳤다. 선물 거래가 가능해 졌다는 것은 곧 암호화폐가 제도권 시장에 편입됐음을 의미한다. 비트코인이 주식과 같은 투자 자산으로 인정 받게 된 것이다.

⑨ 비트코인 최고가 2500만원

올 1월 7일 비트코인의 몸값이 역대 최고치를 달성했다. 일부 거래소에서는 2888만5000원까지 치솟았다. '김치 프리미엄' 탓에 국내 거래소가 해외 거래소보다 40%가량 더 높은 가격에 거래됐다. 이날 비트코인 세계 평균 시세는 1만6614달러로 약 1777만원(원·달러 환율 1070원 기준)이었다.

The world average price of bitcoin was $ 16,614, which was about 17,770,000 won (based on the won / dollar rate of 1,070 won).

⑩ 비트코인, 끝없는 추락

비트코인 가격이 천정부지로 치솟자 박상기 법무부 장관은 지난 1월 "거래소 폐쇄까지도 목표로 하고 있다"며 거래소를 통한 암호화폐 거래를 금지하는 법안을 준비 중이라고 밝혔다. 박 장관의 이 한마디에 대표적인 암호화폐인 비트코인은 전날 최고가 대비 27.6% 하락하며 장을 마감했다. 여기에 암호화폐 계좌 실명제까지 도입하면서 뜨거웠던 시장은 순식간에 차가워졌다. 현재 비트코인 가격은 700만원대에 머물러 있다. 최고가 대비 70% 이상 하락한 수준이다.
