Introducing real world payment experience with Steem / Steem Dollar in Korea!!

Steemit users in Korea just get moving rather than waiting for the Korean government setting the rules

Hi this is @chobama and I'd like to introduce very interesting news.

Yes, we all know that Korea is not only one of the leading IT countries in the world but also one of the biggest cryptocurrency markets. After the boom of the cryptocurrency market in Korea at the end of 2017, more and more Koreans have been declaring themselves as crypto-enthusiasts and asking the government to take agile, fast, and maybe bold measures to promote the Blockchain technologies and the cryptocurrency markets eventually.

In the meantime, Korean Steemit users are unlikely to sit on their hands and wait for government action. Seven days ago, a Korean Steemit user @asbear announced that he developed a payment system using Steem/Steem Dollar, called Steem Pay "for fun." He mentioned in his post that "he has been thinking about developing a payment tool using Steem Dollar and the very existence of such a tool can help Steem gain more ground and have positive impacts on the growth of Steemit.

Step 1

Source @asbear. He developed a mobile-web based Steem payment system.

The picture above shows how the system works. The exchange rate data are linked with Upbit, a famous Korean cryptocurrency market. When you want to buy a cheese cake from a user @krguiddog at 5,000 KRW, you type in the id, amount of Steem dollar for payment, and the name of items you are trading. And clicking / tapping the Check-out button at the bottom will pop-up the QR code for transaction. The inserted KRW will be calculated into the Steem / Steem dollar and the payment will be proceeded with Steem /. Steem dollar.

Step 2

Source @asbear. The Steem Pay website will pop-up showing the detailed information of the transaction. Users can proceed by tapping/clicking the Steemconnect Remittance button.

The developer @asbear says this system is optimized to mobile devices and just a prototype. I firmly believe that @asbear did not mean to spread this system out and make it a official tool for Steem payment. (He would have hoped so, maybe.) But this system absolutely inspired Korean Steemit users and series of users are putting replies on this post declaring that they WILL apply this system to their businesses.

..And a Steemit user @jsj1215 really implemented this system to his/her own business. @jsj1215's restaurant now accepts Steem/Steem dollar.

Source Steemit user @realcurrency visited the restaurant, which is placed in a different city. You can see how @realcurrency actually used the Steem Pay system for payment on his post.

While using the posts of these Steemit enthusiasts, I felt like I saw a glimpse of the Token economy's future. If Steem or other cryptocurrencies are considered a real deal, it would function like a different kind of fiat money. As another Steemit enthusiast in the beginning stage, I was genuinely happy to see those posts and to make a post spreading out the spirit.

As making a tool like this is not a job of rocket-scientists, I believe similar cases would be happening in other countries (or maybe there already are). As more and more Steemit users owning businesses are willing to participate in this "movement", I expect to see more cases like this happen in the near future, having impacts on policy-making bodies in many countries.
