3 Gods' Hall in Ansimsa TemplesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #korea5 years ago

This post is the last one describing Ansimsa temple. I have explained several times about the meaning of 3 Gods' hall, in Korean Sam Sin Gak.

3 Gods here mean Buddha, Dokseong, Sansin.
It is uncertain what Dokseong means really. We can estimate what Dokseong is. In literally, Dokseong means a sacred who enlighted for himself without other help. Some scholars though Dokseong as a founding god of Korean history. Who really was a Shaman. In eastern ancient history, the function of religion and politics was not divided.

In the process of accepting Buddhism, they preserved the founding god in the worship of Buddhism according to the research.

Sansin means mountain god. In Korean culture, the mountain has special meaning in Korean's spiritual sphere.

Even though there was a separate hall for Mountain god, about that I posted in previous, there was 3 Gods hall in the corner of the temple.

As entering into the hall, I found out the arrangement of gods was a little bit different from other cases.

Buddha portrait was hung at the center of the hall.

Below, It seemed Doekseong.

The interesting thing was I did not find out Mountain God, instead, the 7 stars god was hung on the wall. There were several explains about the meaning of 7 stars god. Some urged 7 stars god appeared in 18 century in Korean Buddhism Picture. Some tried to explain 7 stars god was originated from the traditional religion and deeply connected with the religion of ancient times.

Actually, there were four gods served in this temple.
