House of Treasures Revisited - What Do We Do With All This Stuff?

A Sample of the Many Domestic Wares Patiently Awaiting Their Fate

Those of you who have been following me since my earlier days here on steemit will recall the time I spent cleaning the house of a deceased relative.

Due to circumstances outside of my control, the job was never finished, just placed on hold indefinitely. No big deal. My dad has since moved into the house. Now that it's 'un-vacant' we are once again regular visitors. That means there's still oodles of stuff waiting to be re-discovered.

The original owners of these wares have since passed on, so I know they won't have any further use for them. My dad doesn't care for them and would rather see them gone. A reasonable amount of time has passed and nobody in the family is interested in claiming these things.

They seem perfect for @winstonalden's haunt, Dorothy's Swap Shop, but that's kinda far from here...Maybe a swap shop or second-hand store is a step in the right direction though.

It would be a waste to trash usable items, but they are taking up valuable space in the house.
What do you think, Steemians?
What would you do in this situation?

Sort:

I think some of them are worth something esp the matching cups. Look up the name on the bottoms and see. You might be able to sell them on etsy or kijiji.

Some of them have a vintage look and kitschy at the same time - and people might like them.

Are you in Canada too? Sault St Marie is a hop skip and a very long drive from where I am but still. Ontario is great :)

Thanks for pointing me in that direction! It's a daunting task to remove so many items. I'd prefer to have a plan in mind before I start boxing things up randomly again.

To answer your question, no. I'm still down in Texas. That "sip n smoke" set might have been something my grandparents picked up on a trip through Canada, or it could have been a gift from one of their many friends. They had a lot of ashtrays for being non-smokers, I noticed.

Is Sault St. Marie in Ontario also? I'm not very familiar with Canadian geography...

Yes Sault St Marie is northern Ontario. It's gorgeous up there in the autum - best for color. It's up where Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior all meet. We call it the Sioux. Right across the northern border of Michigan.

I can only imagine how daunting the task might be. I hope you have a few friends who could help you organize things.

I'll remember that tip for where to find autumn color north of the border!

Yeah, this is quite a feat. The amount of stuff that can be inside one house is astounding. As for assistance, I can always count on @jschindler to help. We get a lot done together!

I would take a camera (so I can post the whole thing with some deathmetal edited into the background)and a tarp. Wear some goggles, because crazy people should also use protection for their eyes. Then I would take all the bullshit that nobody ever really wanted and bust it all to fucking hell and back. Slamming it hard, I will make the abandoned brocken. With the pieces I will use to create something new....https://pin.it/vacez5ykc2mjzk

That's actually a pretty good idea. I like the thought of re-purposing these things. Maybe if nobody wants them in their original forms I'll turn trash into art treasure! I would definitely gift you a piece. Or at least dedicate it if you don't want another piece of 'art' cluttering up your space.

Nice beach window btw. It would be perfect in a studio or workspace☺

We could do an art exchange if you liked?

In fact, I would like that very much. I won't make you any promises on time frame here. As long as you're okay with waiting patiently we've got a deal.

No rush - I couldn't take the extra stress myself right now anyways. When is your birthday?

October :]

OK well that feels too long away...hmmm how bout a Spring Equinox exchange?

Doubt it's been done before ha ha

We'll become pioneers then! 20 March 2018, got it

I'm pretty sure you should mail the 'sip and smoke' on down here, I will give it a good home ( : I don't smoke, but it is exceedingly way cool. Love stuff like that, and era gone on by.

My thoughts, why trash anything good, when there are plenty of places to donate it for sale, and their mission is often help people get back on their feet. A win win. The world is so full of plasticrap all over the place, and re-use is a great way to at least slow the rising tide. Thanks for sharing your continued work on the house, and it's stuff.

If you really want the sip n smoke, I'll send it to you. How do we proceed from here??

Yes, while this stuff isn't exactly trash, it's become so unwanted in the house. And there's so much of it that removal is not a weekend or two project. We'll probably end up taking many, many trips to resale shops around...thanks for having a look!

Wow, I would love to get the Sip n' Smoke. What fun to have you ship it to me, if it's not too much trouble. I could give you SBD or send some money for shipping or whatever works. I can give you all the particulars on Steemit.chat...are you on there now and then? Sorry it took awhile to get back on here. It was a pretty hectic day yesterday.

So nice you will give the stuff to someone to use, rather than the dumpster. Though I know the dumpster is a whole lot easier. Think that's why that route is usually used. And CERTAINLY a whole lot easier than mailing it all around the country ( :
But we folks who like quirky things appreciate it. Double ( :

have you thinked about steembay auction? i never done one before but i think you schould take a look at this ;)

I have heard of it, but haven't used it yet either. Thanks for the suggestion!

I would probably give them to a local Thrift shop or something of the sort; I am definitely on the opposite end of a hoarder and probably wouldn't take too much of it myself - although some of those mugs do look pretty nice!

I can relate with you on the hoarding since I'm not a fan of general clutter. Thrift stores will probably be where a lot of the items go. There are a few sentimental items and things of value, but most of this stuff would do better serving another household! Thanks for stopping by!

the cup looks perfect. I love it.

Thank you. There are many pictures of cups, which one are you referring to?
