WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WE FOUND A STRAY DOG

in #kindness7 years ago

It was late at night, when suddenly a large stray dog appeared out of nowhere.

Quickly, @papa-pepper told @mama-pepper to get behind him. 11:30 pm was late and dark enough, but a large mystery dog approaching them made things even more dangerous. After those two stray dogs attacked our rabbit cages a while back, we need to be careful around here.

@mama-pepper got back… really far back, and @papa-pepper held his ground to see what the large dog approaching him would do. It seemed friendly enough, and only sniffed at him, so @papa-pepper and @mama-pepper went back towards the house.

Shortly after, the dog followed. Always being one to have a heart for animals, @papa-pepper got it a bowl of water to drink, and the dog did. Soon, it just curled up near our truck and went to bed, and so did we.

The next morning, one of the neighbor boys was knocking at the door. “Is that your dog?” he asked. @Papa-pepper told him, “Not really, it’s more of a stray, but he’s friendly enough.”

Since the neighbor boy is pretty smart and a boy scout to boot, he checked the collar and located the name, address, and phone number of the owner. Soon @papa-pepper was on the phone with him, but he wouldn’t be able to pick up his dog until much later in the day. Also, he asked if we could watch it for him and keep it until he could pick it up. The @little-peppers sure liked the idea.

So, for a while yesterday, we got to have a dog. The @little-peppers sure enjoyed it. Monster Truck the Pepper was off catching snakes in town with @mama-pepper, so the girls got to have a dog for the day.

We ate some Braunschwieiger with the dog, and named him “Popcorn” since we did not know his real name. He liked hanging out with our chickens and ducks too, and never tried to harm either them or any of us.

In the end, we were a little sad to see him go, but at least he was heading back home, so that was good.

Once, Pinkie-Pepper got to take a wiener dog from Weslaco, TX to Eagle Pass, TX to deliver to her great grandpa, and that was a great, but short, dog experience too.

We heard that sometimes people might even shoot stray dogs in some places, and we were sure glad that this one got to find his way back home, and that we could enjoy him for a bit too!
