Blue tongue lizard - #Killerpix Photo Contest -

This week, the theme is REPTILES and since I have a HUGE fan of reptiles at home, here are some recent photos that I took last week while amongst all other things in our backyard, he found an AUSTRALIAN BLUE TONGUE LIZARD which was really an exciting moment!

They aren't so fast so they are easy to catch and are pretty friendly.
We of course let him go after a few minutes of enjoying his presence with us.
These lizards can be found in the garden and they help keep the numbers of snails, caterpillars and some other pests down. This is the first time we've seen one around here though.

In Australia There are six species of blue-tongued lizards (or skinks). They vary a bit in colour and size, but most commonly they are grey with broad brown stripes across their back and tail, and they grow to around a foot in length (SOURCE).

The most noticeable feature is the blue tongue inside the bright pink mouth:

After reading a bit about these lizards, the one in these pictures is: the Common or Eastern Blue-tongue Lizard (Tiliqua scincoides scincoides): which is widespread in the south east of Australia (SOURCE):
