A Job Seeker, Client of mine, asks:

Any particular opinion/input/advice over Job Offers with @Gmail.com, @msn.com, @yahoo.com, ... etc?

There are the Following type of Animals in the Recruiting Industry Jungle:

  • Real Headhunters with formal offices, and even some of them in the major stock exchanges. Companies like Hudson, KornFerry, ...
  • Agencies. Some local, others Regional/Worldwide. Companies la Adecco, Manpower, ...
  • Individual Lone Ranger Headhunters operating at local, regional or worldwide reach. Normally ex-managers turn hunters. Cases like me. Some may have several staff under them. Kind of Boutiques.
In this cases it is normal that have their own website and private domains. But since Domains are so cheap, then there is no guarantee that an non generic email be a real Hunter. In fact, the mayority of the scammers do have one or several, typically a mix of words resembling a known company. Alway do a check on Whois Registrars to find out who is the real owner.
  • Recruiters. Here is where you will find the majority of generic emails but since these professional typically are Long Rangers it is normal for them not to run in the complexity of running a website. Sometimes they are very old schools and cannot even use an @Gmail.com and that is where you see those @Hotmail.com, @msn.com, @Yahoo.com, .... However it is a this level that a huge volume of scammers live.

Some of this Scammers believe we are so stupid, that they send forged emails, let say from Exxon, but sign as Hotmail, and worst, they telling us to send data to other third party. They think we are so stupid, we will not understand their stupidity.
