Vacations with Extraterrestrials - Supernatural Writing Contest (SWC)

The story I’m about to tell you is real. It was 1998, I was 23 years old, it was in the month of August, and I was with my family to spend our vacations at the “Paramo La Culata” in Merida state, Venezuela. Our plan was going to the mountain and camping with tents, make a bonfire and in general, having a good time. This was an activity that many families did back in the day, so we thought it was a good idea, however we wanted to be far from the bustle and the people that were camping there, we drove a few miles to the opposite site in the north of the mountain were we thought we could be alone.

We weren’t scared of the insecurity, because we were many and we were prepared for any eventuality. I don’t remember quite well the area we decided to settle in, but I remember that we were surrounded by pine trees. For our surprise, other families were there too. We made new friends, we cooked a barbecue and we drank, in general, we had a great time, until it was sleep time.

The kids were the first who went to sleep, followed by the women, while the men got together to drink and keep talking for a few hours more until we went to bed, late that night. It was around 3:00 am when something woke me up, maybe a nightmare. Everything was quiet, I could only heard the sounds of animals and the wind crashing against the tent.

I decided to go out to pee, in my walk I stared to the night sky and I was in raptures for how beautiful it looked and how nice the cold wind felt in my face, although, I was still tipsy by the effects of the alcohol, I closed my eyes and I could fell the earth moving in my feet, when all the sudden I heard a hiss. I turned my head to check where it was coming from, the moon was slightly lighting the field and the tents, but I could see in the distance a shadow that looked like it was digging the ground, they looked like children, but small and slim. This worried me, I thought it were my nephews who went out to play and they could miss in the forest or something worse, I decided to walk and talk to them, so they get in the tents. I walked a few steps and suddenly the shadows stopped doing what they were doing when they felt my presence.

It was odd because they were several tiny people and they were staring at me, suddenly they ran away to hide in the darkness, I wasn’t aware of what was going on, but I was still thinking in my nephews that could get lost in the forest, I noticed how one of the figures ran to the river that was near our camping place, I got really scared because a child could drown in the waters of the river. I ran and screamed so they could hear me, when I got to the river there wasn’t anybody there, I couldn’t see or heard anything, but then I found a hole in the ground where the figures were digging, something was wrong, I went to the tents to check all my nephews were there and they were all sleeping with my sister, after checking I decided to do a further research.

I walked to the family’s truck to grab a big lamp that could light the whole area, I stepped in to look for the lamp and I found it in the back of the seats, while this happened the wind closed the door, I was alert, my body was tense, I felt chills going down my spine when I saw through the glass a figure that was standing outside and trying to look inside. Without hesitation I pointed the lamp to the figure and turned it on. I can’t describe the horrible sensation I felt when I saw that, my head went numb, my heart beating rise and I started to shake. It was a long head with a with gray tone skin and a pair of big black eyes that looked like they could pop out of the eyes sockets in any moment, it didn’t have a nose, instead it had a pair of tiny holes and it looked like it didn’t have a mouth.

Then I knew it, all the stories were real, aliens exist and right now I was the main protagonist of an incredible and scary one. I stood there, pointing the lamp at that thing’s face, we were staring each other without making any move, just like it appeared, it disappeared, it ran away walking backwards to hide again in the darkness.

I was sweating with the heart beating fast, my sanity and bravery came back, my adrenaline was high and the first thing I did was getting out of the truck to check my family, hopping they were alright. But then I saw them, they were together, all the tiny figures were standing, looking at me with their tiny looking marbles eyes, I ran back to the truck to turn the lights on, the little figures ran to hide in the dark, but then, I saw it, a taller figure, with bigger heard, bigger black eyes that were shinning with the lights, it was the same creature that was spying me, now it was staring at me, until suddenly it banished, I sat in the truck, thinking what it had happened.

Suddenly, a banging in the window’s door scared me; it was my brother in law how saw me distressed. I didn’t want to tell what happened, maybe because I was scared or maybe because I knew they will make fun of me or they would tell me that it was only a hallucination caused by the alcohol. During the rest of the night I was alert, looking at my surroundings, next to my brother in law I felt in company, even though he was drinking, I felt supported. Almost at the end of the night I saw at the back of the forest many lights that moved to the stars, I supposed those were their ships. Before that day I was skeptical about everything related to life in other planets; but when you have an experience like mine, you start to believe that there’s something else out there. That same morning we moved back to the area of the first camping with more people around us and I was relived. I give you my testimony and I assure you, they are real.
