Az Jazz Guitar Lessons #7: Learning the 5 Essential Jazz Chord Arpeggios

in #jazz6 years ago

Welcome to the 7th of a series of jazz guitar lessons that I'm writing on steemit! This is an accompanying lesson to Az Jazz Guitar Lessons #2: Learning the 5 Essential Jazz Chords

This time, I'm sharing the 5 essential jazz chord arpeggios that will help you to learn jazz standards (common jazz pieces).

Steemit Lesson 7 - Jazz Arpeggios.jpg

These 5 chord qualities are the most important ones for an aspiring jazz guitarists:
• Major7
• 7 or Dominant7
• Minor7
• Minor7b5
• Diminished7

For now, don't worry about the theory aspect but focus on being able to play these chords with the root of the chord on C (3rd fret, 5th string).

I've listed them in the arpeggio diagrams above and included the note names for each note. Since there are several possible fingering choices, I've left the left hand fingering for you to explore. Try playing each of these chords and make sure you get a good sound.

If you try these out, please feel free to record a short video of you playing it & include the link in the comments section. I'm quite curious to see if anyone will participate & it would be cool to really know that this lesson was helpful.

Thanks again and see you in a future post! :)

Oh, man. It's been so long since I last played anything on guitar. I foresee my fingers cramping up hard attempting these chords! Thanks for sharing the knowledge, man!

You're welcome!

Yeah, if you do try it out, do it REALLY slow and experiment with different fingerings. I'll probably do videos explaining this in future posts too if enough people are curious about the lessons. :)

Let me know if you have any questions too.

Thanks for the offer! Appreciate it :)
