Iwate Prefecture introduces Sakurayama Shrine and Morioka Castle in Morioka City.Sakurayama shrine is located in Morioka city which is the prefectural office location of Iwate prefecture. Nearby there are Iwate prefectural government office and Morioka station, and there are many shops around. Sakurayama Shrine is in Morioka Castle of Morioka City, the prefectural office of Iwate Prefecture.

岩手県は盛岡市の櫻山神社（桜山神社）と盛岡城をご紹介します。櫻山神社は岩手県の県庁所在地である盛岡市の、盛岡城内にあります。近くには岩手県庁や盛岡駅もありますよ。

Against this backdrop, Sakurayama Shrine will also repeat transit. Sakurayama shrine moved into Morioka castle after Morioka castle was transferred to Mr. Nanbu.

周りには数多くの商店も立ち並んでいます。櫻山神社は盛岡の中心地にあるんですよね。櫻山神社の始まりは江戸時代に遡ります。

江戸時代の初めに、盛岡藩初代藩主南部信直によって盛岡城は整備されます。櫻山神社は、江戸時代中期に初代藩主南部信直の遺徳を偲び創建されました。明治時代、盛岡藩は政府から様々な無理を押し付けられます。というのは、政府と敵対した過去があるためです。こうした背景から、櫻山神社も遷座を繰り返すことになります。櫻山神社は盛岡城内に遷座したのは、盛岡城が南部氏に譲られてからのことです。

当社は、江戸時代中期の寛延二年(1749)、盛岡藩八代(南部家三十三世)利視公により盛岡藩初代(南部家二十六世)信直公の御遺徳を偲び、城内淡路丸(本丸東側)に神殿を建立、九月二十六日、その御神霊を勧請して淡路丸大明神と尊崇し奉ったのに始まります。

There is a crane in the middle. This is a family crest of a power ruler who governed this place. It was a formal family crest report that I reported to the central government during the Edo period, and it was used in formal occasions. The pattern in the corner is also a family crest. It seems that these were used properly according to the situation.

こちらが櫻山神社の御朱印（gosyuin）です。ユーモラスですよね。

御朱印上部の青いサケに気がつきましたか？
神社の近くを流れる中津川にサケが遡上してくるため、サケのスタンプを押しているそうなんです。県の中心地盛岡の中でも中心地なのに、豊かな自然に恵まれているんですよね。ちなみに、神主さん曰く、サケが登ってくると毎年ニュースになるとのことですよ。

真ん中には鶴がいます。これは盛岡藩南部家の定紋で、向鶴と言います。定紋とは江戸時代に幕府に届け出をした家紋のことで、正式な場で用いられました。四隅にある模様も家紋です。それぞれ、武田菱・花菱・九曜紋・松笠と言います。これらは、替紋・裏紋と呼ばれるもので、TPOに応じて使い分けていたようですね。

神社には烏帽子岩という巨岩があります。この土地を掘り返したときに出てきたと言われています。わかりにくかもしれないですが、かなりデカイですよ。烏帽子岩は、別名、兜岩とも呼ばれ、南部藩盛岡の「お守り岩」として今日まで崇拝されています。災害や疫病があった時などは、この烏帽子岩の前で平安祈願の神事が行われるそうです。そのためでしょうか。今日ではパワースポットになっているそうですよ。

烏帽子岩を支える石垣は、盛岡城のそれです。前述のように、櫻山神社は盛岡城内にあります。

見事な石垣ですね。東北地方には、これほど高い石垣で囲まれている城はあまりありません。なぜ盛岡城に高い石垣が築かれたのでしょう。

第一の理由は、石垣の城は西国で発達したからです。当時の「日本」の中心地は西国です。石垣は豊臣秀吉のもとで築造技術を磨いた西国の大名によってつくられていました。盛岡城は秀吉から築城を命令され築かれました。つまり、盛岡城は豊臣政権が奥州に睨みを利かすために置かれた軍事施設だったのです。盛岡城の前身は不来方城と言います。もうひとつは、城を作るための石材（花崗岩）の調達が容易なためです。盛岡城の建立された土地や盛岡市庁舎付近で花崗岩が採れました。

石垣は残っていますが、城自体は残っていません。ですので、盛岡城は、正確には盛岡城跡です。盛岡藩は奥羽越列藩同盟として、戊辰戦争で薩長を中心とする新政府軍に敗北しました。この敗北を機に、盛岡城は新政府軍（官軍）に奪われてしまいます。「勝てば官軍」とはこのことですね。盛岡の象徴たるお城を接収されるとは、盛岡の人々は圧倒的敗北感を味わったことでしょう。

写真の台座をご覧ください。今は台座しか残っていませんが、以前は南部家４２代当主の銅像が立っていました。同当主は日露戦争で戦死してしまいます。その際、銅像がつくられました。しかし、太平洋戦争の勃発で金属が不足したので、銅像を国に差し出すことになってしまったのです。盛岡城は権力者によって築城され、権力者によって破壊され、権力者によって奪われました。盛岡城は、常に歴史に翻弄されているのです。

盛岡城は軍事施設としての役目は終え、現在は盛岡城公園として市民に解放されました。血なまぐさい戦争を体験してきた城も、平和を愛する人々の憩いの場となっています。外敵に備えるためのお堀は、日本的美しさを体現しています。公園を歩けば、季節ごとの美しさ味わうことができます。まるで悲劇の歴史などなかったかのように。
