Kimchi in Japan 🇰🇷🇯🇵 - Pork Kimchi stone grilled Bibimbap - 🇰🇷🇯🇵 豚キムチ石焼ビビンバ

in #japan7 years ago

Greetings Steemit Friends

Today I tried to eat Korean food in Japan. Kimchi and Bibimbap are two of my favourite Korean dishes and today I tasted them in Japan. The Bibimbap was prepared with pork and kimchi and served in a burning hot stone bowl. Extreme caution need to be taken regarding the bowl as it was insanely hot, but it is also a cool experience seeing the food cooking while it is on the table.

In Japan it is extremely rare with spicy food. Probably the strongest around is wasabi, but although it gives you a strong kick and tears (if you take too much at once), it is nothing like a spicy dish with chilli or curry. It doesn't give a long burning and hot sensation. It is interesting actually how many other countries in Asia are used to spicy food while Japanese dishes are all mild.

So although the dish I had today was from a Korean kitchen, it was made as mild as possible to fit the Japanese standard. My experience with Kimchi is that it always tastes different. The way to prepare it and how long it's been resting/fermenting makes a huge difference to the taste. The one served with my Bibimbap was nice, the texture was very good, but I could only have wished it had a bit more bite to it. But again, this is in Japan so I should put my Japanese hat on. 🇯🇵😀

Dish prepared! The egg comes next to it for me to crack on top of the dish. When the dish is served you mix all ingredients yourself before eating. Bibimbap on a plate with egg next to it. Read to eat

The raw egg cracked. My egg moved quickly to one side and coagulated at once before I could mix it all up. Not perfect but I was prioritising to take a picture rather than mix&eat. Bibimbap dish with raw egg crack on top

Thank you for reading!

Interesting and funny names indeed. But did you mean the English or Japanese name? 😜
And I didn't even mention the name: Gochujang, the red chilli paste. I think it is very common to eat with Bibimbap.

hahahah both :P

it looks delicious!

Thanks for your comment! It was delicious. 😀
It is actually from a very simple restaurant so the price is great as well. 700 yen, which is around 5 euro or 6 usd.
