Ceramic Pot "Teste di Moro" from Caltagirone, Sicilia (IT)

Buonasera @Steemiers, stasera vi mostro alcuni vasi in ceramica di Caltagirone, in Sicilia.
Mi sono imbattuto in queste ceramiche durante un trasloco di alcune settimane fa, e all'inizio non sapevo cosa fossero.
Parlando con mio zio ho finalmente scoperto che queste sono molto famose nella cultura tradizionale siciliana, che sono stati usati e che sono ancora oggi usati come veri vasi per le piante.
Spulciando su internet scopro che ci sono due leggende che spiegherebbero la nascita di queste teste, entrambe segnate dall'avvento degli arabi nei territori siciliani come pure dai greci, per il loro contributo allo sviluppo dell'arte dei ceramisti siciliani (ricordando quindi il ricco passato di presenza greca, bizantina, araba, genovese e normanna) di cui queste ne testimoniano la storia.

Good evening @Steemiers tonight I show you some ceramic vases from Caltagirone, in Sicily. I chance upon with these ceramics during a move a few weeks ago, and at the beginning I didn't know what they were.
Speaking with my uncle I finally discovered that these are very famous in the traditional Sicilian culture, that they were used and that they are still used today as real pots for plants.
Sifting through the internet I discover that there are two legends that would explain the birth of these heads, both marked by the advent of the Arabs in the Sicilian territories as well as the Greeks, for their contribution to the development of the art of Sicilian ceramists (remembering therefore the rich past of Greek, Byzantine, Arab, Genoese and Norman presence) of which these witnesses testify the history.

Entrambe le storie risalgono al 1000 'in piena dominazione araba e in particolare dei Mori, da cui il nome "Teste di Moro".
La storia racconta di questa bella ragazza nel quartiere di Kalsa a Palermo che non usciva mai di casa e che dedicava le sue giornate alla cura delle piante sul balcone.
Un giorno un Moro la vide dalla strada mentre innaffiava le piante, al chè si fermò quasi incantato dalla sua bellezza.
La ragazza notando il giovane arabo non poteva fare altro che innamorarsi, e da questo nacque il grande amore tra la parlermitana e l'arabo Moro.

Both stories date back to 1000 'in full Arab domination and in particular of the Moors, hence the name "Teste di Moro".
The story tells of this beautiful girl in the Kalsa district of Palermo who never left the house and who dedicated her days to the care of plants on the balcony.
One day a Moro saw her from the street while watering the plants, then he stopped almost enchanted by her beauty. The girl noticing the young Arab could do nothing but fall in love, and from this arose this great love between the parlermitana and the arab Moro.

Da qui le due storie prendono pieghe diverse, una ci dice che il giovane dopo tanto tempo deve intraprendere il viaggio per tornare nel suo Oriente, così la ragazza su tutte la furie non fa altro che tagliargli la testa nella notte mettendola dentro un vaso e lì dentro ci pianta del basilico.
I vicini invidiosi di questa pianta rigogliosa e profumata replicano l'esperimento, ma questa volta con teste in ceramica.

From here the two stories take different folds, one tells us that the young man after a long time must undertake the journey to return to his East, so the girl on all the rage does nothing but cut off his head in the night putting it inside a vase and planting a basil.
The envious neighbors of this lush and fragrant plant replicate the experiment but this time with ceramic heads.

La seconda storia, invece, la forza più accreditata, ci dice che questo amore nascosto è nato tra un ragazzo arabo e una ragazza nobile, e che una volta scoperti, i due furono decapitati a causa di questo atto vergognoso e le loro teste posate su un balcone per avvertire in vista di futuri inconvenienti amorosi.
Da qui la tradizione per cui i Capi di Moro sono sempre in coppia.

The second story instead, the most credited force, tells us that this hidden love was born between an Arab boy and a noble girl, and that once discovered, the two were beheaded because of this disgraceful act and their heads placed on a balcony to warn of future further amorous inconveniences.
Hence the tradition for which the Heads of Moro are always in pairs.
