Alla scoperta dei ciclopi/Discovering the cyclops (ITA-ENG)

In Sicilia, nelle campagne di Milazzo, una squadra di archeologi ha ritrovato i resti di quello che sembrerebbe il teschio di un ciclope. Si tratta di un enorme teschio di circa 90 centimetri di altezza che presenta al centro della fronte un'unica cavità oculare, tipica della creatura mitologica affrontata da Ulisse nella celebre opera di Omero, l' Odissea. Gli esperti non si sono ancora pronunciati sulla veridicità del reperto, tuttavia alcune fotografie comparse in rete lasciano davvero senza fiato.

In Sicily, in the countryside of Milazzo, a team of archaeologists has found the remains of what would appear to be the skull of a Cyclops. It is a huge skull of about 90 centimeters in height that has in the center of the forehead a single ocular cavity, typical of the mythological creature faced by Ulysses in the famous work of Homer, the Odyssey. Experts have not yet pronounced on the veracity of the find, however, some photographs appeared on the net really leave you breathless.

Ma chi erano i ciclopi? Non si sa molto di queste creature mitologiche, ne hanno parlato Omero nell'Odissea, descrivendolo come un gigante, figlio di Poseidone, e poi anche Virgilio nell'Eneide, Callimaco nell'Inno ad Artemide, Ovidio nelle Metamorfosi ed *Euripide che ne scrive un dramma.

But who were the cyclops? Not much is known of these mythological creatures, they talked about Homer in the Odyssey, describing him as a giant, son of Poseidon, and then also Virgil in the Aeneid, Callimachus in the Anthem to Artemis, Ovid in the Metamorphoses and Euripides who writes a drama.

Si narra che vivesse in Sicilia e che fossero dediti alla pastorizia. Si pensa che possano essere dei discendenti dei Titani, secondo alcuni studiosi, un antico popolo di giganti che abitò la Terra.

It is thought that they may be descendants of the Titans, according to some scholars, an ancient people of giants who inhabited the Earth.

Naturalmente (spero) avete capito che mi sono inventato tutto e che questi teschi li ho disegnati io. Però la possibilità che un tempo siano esistiti questi giganti mi affascina moltissimo, chissà quali creature hanno popolato la Terra migliaia di anni fa e di cui non è rimasta più traccia o per lo meno, qualche reperto un po' particolare si trova ma la scienza spesso è restia nel considerarli autentici. Io lavoro di fantasia e voglio credere anche a ciò che è improbabile. E voi siete sognatori o credete solo a ciò che è spiegabile scientificamente?

Of course (I hope) you understood that I invented everything and that these skulls I designed them. But the possibility that once existed these giants fascinates me very much, who knows what creatures have populated the Earth thousands of years ago and of which there is no trace left or at least, some find a little special is found but science often is reluctant to consider them authentic. I work with imagination and I also want to believe what is unlikely. And you are dreamers or do you believe only what is scientifically explainable?

Per concludere vi dico che i teschi li ho realizzati in 3d con Daz3d, ho renderizzato diversi punti di vista e con Photoshop ho lavorato sulle luci e sulle ombre del teschio e ho inserito gli sfondi e una leggera vignettatura.

To conclude I tell you that the skulls I made them in 3D with Daz3d, I have rendered different points of view and with Photoshop I worked on the lights and shadows of the skull and I added the backgrounds and a slight vignetting.
