Today I have the pleasure to speak about a post apocalyptic science fiction movie duo... especially the first one!
In 1981 went out to the theaters to become a cult; "Escape from New York," (our funny guys who love changing names to the movies have limited themselves to translating it without twist it) by the director "John Carpenter" and as leading actor "Kurt Russel".
I fell in love with this movie that I saw as a kid, thanks to my father which was watching a lot of movies.
At that time I was so excited that I make a fake bandage like "Snake" and I went around proud of it!

The legendary character is the anti-hero Snake Plissken with a big tattoo of a big snake on the belly (here our funny guys who finally change something, in Italy was called "Jena Plissken", I sincerely miss the comparison between a snake and a hyena, maybe looking at the movie they said, "this guy is really smart, like a hyena!"... apparently they did it for labial problems). Film starting narration: "1988: The crime rate in the United States reaches 400%. What once was the free city of New York became the ultimate security prison for the entire country.A 15 meter long wall is erected along the Jersey coastline, across the Harlem River, and down the Brooklyn coast line. It completely surround Manhattan, all bridges and channels are mined. The US police force, like an army is encamped around the island. There are no guards inside the prison. Only the prisoners and the worlds that have been created. The rules are simple: once you enter, you will not leave never again" and I would say that it's already really cool! The movie is set in 1997, Snake is a war hero, bad ass who has been charged with the crime and was sentenced to death, is imprisoned in a maximum security prison of New York. Meanwhile, the US President while on board a plane, due to a terrorist attack, is forced to eject himself with a rescue capsule to save is ass, but when the capsule's impact site is tracked the military arrives and they are welcomed with open arms from "Romero" the right-hand man of the "Duke of New York", that is our bad guy on turn. And what does our Snake have to do with all this? Of course he has to save the ass to the president within 24 hours, or he'll blow up the two micro bombs that have injected him into his neck making him believe he was a vaccine. Now I will not be here to tell you everything else since if you have never seen it you can see it without too many spoilers, and if you have already seen it you will remember beacause is a cult, the only spoilers I will tell you are that Snake will kill everyone and it does not die, but it's easy to guess since the movie had a sequel.

Here it is... the sequel ... I never realized if it was serious or parody, while the first despite the fluent and easy plot has its pretty dose of tension and raw scenes, the second is full of absurd scenes like that of the game a basket where he has to make two points in ten seconds all field on the opposing baskets or he will be killed, or that of chase to a surfing machine inside a water canal. Now the Year is 2013, the daughter of the US President, joined the Peruvian leader "Cuervo Jones" (a mockery of "Che Guevara") stealing a remote control that can reposition the orbiting satellites around earth and rendering useless every electronic device on the planet. Mega stupid in short. The fearful and its gang dominate the city of Los Angeles, the state of California detached itself from the continent because of an earthquake, the "Big One" due to the San Andrea fault, and became an island prison. Snake has to find the remote control and the president's daughter and he is injected with a virus that will only be treated after the end of the mission. The movie is set fifteen years after "Escape from New York" and fifteen years have passed between the first and second movie shoots, so Kurt Russell has been perfectly credible in the role of aged Snake of fifteen years.

Curiosity on Escape from New York:

• The principal character of the video game "Metal Gear Solid", "Solid Snake" is inspired by Snake Plissken, even has the same pirate bandage on the eye and uses the alias "Pliskin" during the second chapter to hide its identity.
• Between the pauses of shooting, Kurt Russel had to take off his bandage on the eye as it made him because he created him discomforts at the depths of sight.
• The urban set pattern was redesigned and reused for the "Blade Runner" movie.
• The movie was mostly shot in Missouri at Saint Louis but also in Los Angeles in California and Atlanta in Georgia, just a scene with the statue of liberty was shot in New York.
• In Korea Snake was called "Cobra", in Germany the movie was titled "rattlesnake" and changed his last name to "Plessken" (So there are those who are worse than italians).
  
• John Carpenter managed to convince Saint Louis authorities to stop electricity for ten blocks for a night to give more realism to the shooting.
• Originally, the leading actor of the movie was to be "Tommy Lee Jones" or Chuck Norris, but then John Carpenter decided to take a younger actor and choose Kurt Russel.

Oggi ho il piacere di palarvi di un duo di film di fantascienza post apocalittici davvero geniale...sopratutto il primo!
Nel 1981 esce nelle sale cinematografiche quello che diventerà un cult; "Fuga da New York", (i nostri simpaticoni che amano cambiare nomi ai film si sono limitati nel tradurlo senza storpiarlo) dalla regia di "John Carpenter" e come attore principale "Kurt Russel".
Mi innamorai di questo film che vidi da ragazzino, grazie a mio padre che guardava film in continuazione.
All'epoca mi esaltò talmente tanto che arrivai a farmi una finta benda da pirata come "Jena" ed andavo in giro tutto fiero!

Il mitico protagonista è l'anti eroe Jena Plissken con un grosso tatuaggio sulla pancia a forma di serpente (eccoli qui i nostri simpaticoni che finalmente storpiano qualcosa, in lingua originale si chiama "Snake" non "Jena", mi sfugge sinceramente il paragone tra un serpente ed un jena, forse guardando il film si sono detti: "che astuto sto tipo, è veramente un iena!"...a quanto pare l'hanno fatto per motivi di labiale). Voce narrante di inizio film: « 1988: l'indice di criminalità negli Stati Uniti raggiunge il 400%. Quella che un tempo fu la libera città di New York diventa il carcere di massima sicurezza per l'intero paese.Un muro di cinta di 15 metri viene eretto lungo la linea costiera di Jersey, attraverso il fiume Harlem, e giù lungo la linea costiera di Brooklyn. Circonda completamente l'isola di Manhattan, tutti i ponti e i canali sono minati. La forza di polizia statunitense, come un esercito, è accampata intorno all'isola. Non vi sono guardie dentro il carcere. Solo i prigionieri e i mondi che si sono creati. Le regole sono semplici: una volta entrati, non si esce più » e direi che è già tutto un programma! Il film però è ambientato nel 1997, Jena è un eroe di guerra che si è dato al crimine ed è stato condannato a morte, viene incarcerato nella prigione di massima sicurezza di New York. Intanto il presidente degli USA mentre si trova in aereo, a causa di un attacco terroristico è obbligato ad eiettarsi con una capsula di salvataggio per salvarsi, ma quando viene rintracciato il luogo di impatto della capsula i militari giungono sul posto ma vengono accolti a braccia aperte da "Romero" il braccio destro del "Duca di New York", cioè il nostro cattivone di turno. E cosa c'entra il nostro Jena con tutto ciò? Naturalmente deve salvare il culo al presidente entro 24 ore o senò gli esploderanno le due micro bombe che gli hanno iniettato nel collo facendogli credere che fosse un vaccino. Ora non starò qui a raccontarvi tutto il resto dato che se non l'avete mai visto potete vederlo senza troppi spoiler e se l'avete già visto ve lo ricorderete a memoria in quanto un cult, gli unici spoiler che vi dirò sono che Jena scannerà tutti e non muore, ma è facilmente intuibile dato che il film ha avuto un seguito.

Ecco appunto il seguito...non ho mai capito se fosse voluto serio o una parodia, mentre il primo nonostante la trama semplice e scorrevole ha la sua bella dose di tensione e scene crude, il secondo è pieno di scene assurde come quella della partita a basket dove deve fare 2 canestri entro dieci secondi a tutto campo sui tabelloni opposti o verrà ucciso, o quella dell'inseguimento ad una macchina in surf dentro un canale d'acqua. Giunge l'anno 2013, la figlia del Presidente degli U.S.A: si è unita al leader peruviano "Cuervo Jones" (una sorta di presa per in giro di "Che Guevara") rubando un telecomando in grado di riposizionare i satelliti orbitanti intorno alla Terra e di rendere inutile ogni congegno elettronico del pianeta. Na mega vaccata insomma. Il temibilone Cuervo e la sua banda dominano la città di Los Angeles, lo stato della California si è distaccata dal continente a causa di un terremoto il "Big One" dovuto alla faglia di Sant'Andrea ed è diventato un'isola-prigione. Sto giro Jena deve recuperare il telecomando e la figlia del presidente e gli viene iniettato un virus che verrò curato soltanto al termine della missione.Il film è ambientato quindici anni dopo "Fuga da New York" e quindici anni esatti sono passati tra le riprese del primo film e quelle del secondo, così Kurt Russell è stato perfettamente credibile nella parte di Jena invecchiato di quindici anni.

Curiosità su Fuga da New York:

• Il protagonista del Videogioco "Metal Gear Solid", "solid Snake" è ispirato a Jena, ha addirittura la stessa benda da pirata sull'occhio ed usa l'alias "Pliskin" nel secondo capitolo per nascondere la sua identità.
• Tra le pause delle riprese Kurt Russel doveva togliersi la benda sull'occhio in quanto gli creava fastidi alla vista che perdeva di profondità.
• Il modello del set urbano è stato ridipinto e riutilizzato per il film "Blade Runner".
• Le riprese del film sono state girate per la maggior parte nel Missouri a Saint Louis ma anche a Los Angeles in California ed Atlanta in Georgia, solo una scena dove si vede la statua della libertà è stata girata a New York.
• In Korea il protagonista venne chiamato "Cobra", in Germania il film fu intitolato "Serpente a Sonagli"e gli cambiarono il cognome in "Plessken" (Dunque c'è chi sta peggio di noi...).
  
• John Carpenter riuscì a convincere le autorità di Saint Louis ad interrompere l'elettricità per dieci isolati di notte per dar maggior realismo alle riprese.
• In origine il protagonista del film sarebbe dovuto essere "Tommy Lee Jones" oppure Chuck Norris, ma poi John Carpenter decise di prendere un attore più giovane ed optò per Kurt Russel.
