Hello dear friends,
Today I want to talk about writing.
If we write we can have and transmit a lot of emotions, but it is also the writing itself that can express the character of a person, a circumstance or an 'era.
The graphics of a character are extremely important because they help communication!

LA SCRITTURA

Ciao cari amici,
oggi voglio parlarvi della scrittura.
Scrivendo possiamo avere e trasmettere tantissime emozioni, ma è anche la scrittura stessa che può esprimere il carattere di una persona, una circostanza o un‘ epoca.
La grafica di un carattere è una cosa estremamente importante perché aiuta la comunicazione!

HISTORY

I decided to explain a little bit the history of writing, and wanting to deepen the subject I saw that I'm obliged to divide the theme in more posts.
Let's say that there was always the will and the need for communication, signs and drawings were there already in prehistoric times.
It seems that the first writing comes from Mesopotamia, around 4000 B.C.
As far as Asian writing is concerned, since it developed in a very different way, I couldn't include it in these posts, like many other scratches.
I therefore start, skipping Egypt and the Bronze Age, with the Roman writings: they are divided into Libraria and Rustica.

LA STORIA

Ho deciso di spiegarvi un poco la storia della scrittura, e volendo approfondire l' argomento mi sono vista obbligata a dividere il tema in piú post.
Diciamo che la volontà e l'esigenza di comunicazione c'é sempre stata, segni e disegni vi erano già in epoca preistorica.
Sembra che la prima scrittura venga dalla Mesopotamia, intorno al 4000 a.C..
Per quanto riguarda la scrittura asiatica, siccome si è sviluppata in modo molto differente, non ho potuta includerla in questi post, come molte altre scritture.
Parto perció, saltando l'Egitto e l'età del bronzo, dalle scritture Romane che si dividono in quella Libraria e in quella Rustica.

Starting from the third A.D.C. with the fall of the Roman Empire the Church searched for a new type of writing, so the Onciale writing was born.

A partire dal terzo s.d.C con la caduta dell‘ Impero Romano la Chiesa ricerca un nuovo tipo di scrittura, cosí nasce la scrittura Onciale.

Almost at the same time the Semionciale writing appears, which was born as a personal cursive writing used by the scribes for their notes in the margins of manuscripts. It definitively introduces the lower case character.

Quasi contemporaneamente compare la scrittura Semionciale, che nasce come scrittura corsiva personale utilizzata dagli scribi per le loro note a margine die manoscritti. Essa introduce definitivamente il carattere minuscolo.

In the Middle Ages styles multiplied also because of the barbarian invasions. In Italy the most widespread at that time is the Beneventiana, which comes from the Monks of Monte Cassino.

Nel Medioevo si moltiplicarono gli stili anche a causa delle invasioni barbariche. In Italia la più diffusa in quel momento è la Beneventiana, che viene dai Monaci di Monte Cassino.

In France, in that period we have the Merovingica writing.

In Francia in quel perido la scrittura é quella Merovingica.

And in England the Irish one.

E in Inghillterra quella Irlandese.

With Charlemagne Latin became again the official language and the Minuscola Carolina was introduced.

Con Carlomagno il latino ritorna ad essere la lingua ufficiale e viene introdotta la Minuscola Carolina.

In the Gothic period books became very popular for all types of schools, so the scribes began to narrow and shorten the character forms for folding less time to write and to have more space on the paper.
The shape used for elegant texts is called Textura.

Nell‘ epoca gotica i libri diventano assai richiesti da ogni tipo di scuola, cosí gli scribi iniziano a restringere ed accorciare le forme die caratteri per i piegare meno tepo a scrivere e per avrere più spazio sul foglio.
La forma utilizzata per testi eleganti è chiamata Textura.
