La "Barcolana" è una mitica regata velica storica che si svolge nel golfo di Trieste, da 50 anni nella seconda domenica di ottobre.
La Barcolana nasce nel 1969 come regata dei circoli velici di Trieste in cui gareggiarono 51 imbarcazioni, e gradatamente vennero coinvolti equipaggi di ogni parte di Italia fino ad ottenere la presenza di velisti da ogni parte del mondo.

Quest'anno è stato celebrato il 50° anniversario della sua nascita, ed in questa occasione la Barcolana è diventata la regata velica più grande del mondo con la partecipazione di 2689 imbarcazioni.

Per la città di Trieste questo evento è diventato un appuntamento e soprattutto un business importante su cui ruota una bella fetta di economia del Comune e dei Comuni limitrofi.
Pensate che partecipano ben 25.000 velisti e arrivano in città per una media di circa 10 giorni 250.000 turisti.
Infatti, la Barcolana è stata implementata con tutta una serie di eventi e manifestazioni collaterali, come ad esempio:

• Extreme 40, per catamarani
• Classic: come regata storica
• Barcolana Young riservata a ragazzi dagli 8 ai 15 anni, classe Optimist
• Barcolana by night, regata per piccole imbarcazioni classe UFO 28 davanti alla piazza Unità d'Italia e sempre di fronte alla piazza principale Barcolana Fun per Kitesurf e windsurf e Barcolana Nuoto come gara di fondo.

The "Barcolana" is a legendary historical sailing regatta that takes place in the Gulf of Trieste, from 50 years on the second Sunday of October.
The Barcolana was founded in 1969 as a regatta of sailing clubs in Trieste in which 51 boats competed, and gradually involved crews from every part of Italy to obtain the presence of sailors from all over the world.

This year was celebrated the 50th anniversary of his birth, and on this occasion the Barcolana has become the largest sailing regatta in the world with the participation of 2689 boats.

For the city of Trieste this event has become an appointment and above all an important business on which revolves a good chunk of the economy of the Municipality and neighboring Municipalities.
Think of 25,000 sailors taking part and 250,000 tourists arrive in the city for an average of about 10 days.
In fact, the Barcolana has been implemented with a whole series of events and collateral events, such as:

• Extreme 40, for catamarans
• Classic: as a historical regatta
• Barcolana Young for children aged 8 to 15, Optimist

Di grande effetto scenografico il percorso scelto dalla giuria, che dal 2014 prevede il passaggio delle barche davanti allo spazio pubblico più grande di Trieste Piazza Unità d'Italia dove è stata avvicinata la linea di arrivo.

Trovo che sia meraviglioso vedere migliaia di imbarcazioni di tutte le epoche e grandezza navigarti su uno scenario fantastico e tu stai comodamente posizionato in una piazza suggestiva.

I find it wonderful to see thousands of boats of all ages and great sailing on a fantastic scenery and you are conveniently positioned in a picturesque square.

Moltissimi anni fa ebbi la fortuna di partecipare con un Comet 910 di un mio amico e spero di ritornare l'anno prossimo.
Nel frattempo evoco i miei ricordi con un quadro ad olio dove cerco di evidenziare la festa del mare e delle barche di ogni tipo e colore.

Many years ago I was lucky enough to participate with a Comet 910 of a friend of mine and I hope to return next year.
In the meantime, I recall my memories with an oil painting where I try to highlight the party of the sea and boats of all kinds and colors.
I also enclose two details of the work.

In origine il manifesto di quest'anno della Barcolana aveva previsto la partecipazione grafica e creativa dell'artista Marina Abramovic, ma con un intervento di un partito politico italiano il manifesto venne eliminato.
Per il titolo del mio quadro ho preso proprio lo slogan che aveva scelto l'artista Serba-Statunitense per la Barcolana, poi soppresso.

Originally this year's manifesto of the Barcolana had foreseen the graphic and creative participation of the artist Marina Abramovic, but with an intervention by an Italian political party the manifesto was eliminated.
For the title of my painting, I took the slogan chosen by the Serbian-American artist for the Barcolana, then suppressed.
