Have you ever invented anything? Prize to the winner!

Given all the creative and talented Steemians there seems to be around, it got me to thinking.... what crazy creations may have been or be being invented.

I have my own history of invention, sadly a terribly unsuccessful one.

First there was the plastic grip into which you could put your plastic shopping bag handles to stop them cutting your fingers off. Already done and nobody uses them anyway.

Second was the hamster hammock, an adjustable frame with leg holes, into which you could place your hamster to secure them whilst you administered to them...well whatever needed administering. Obviously you could scale the hamster hammock up or down for other animals. That one never got out of the preliminary design phase and it was certainly never going to be prototyped based on the reaction of everyone I told about it. The standard response was incredulity, then laughter.

Third was the 'surface-tension-breaker-shoes.' These were rubber shoes with long rubber protrusions.....think upside-down hedgehog with extra long spikes....that one could wear when sky diving or if you were unfortunate enough to have fallen out of a plane. They were not the most practical footwear when trying to walk about, but the idea was that the rubber extensions would break the surface tension of the water, allowing the rest of you to enter unharmed. I know, ridiculous. Someone could just throw coins or something at the water just before they hit to the same effect. I'm an idiot.

Anyway, there were various other attempts, board games, mobile communications devices that were much worse than phones...a little ball that you kept in your pocket that would go warm when it's pair in the pocket of your loved one was rubbed. Jeepers. Really hopeless. But you know, despite the failures and occasional humiliation, I think there was some value in the attempt. For a start, my inventions made my friends and family laugh. We should embrace and encourage each other's efforts to be creative and for ourselves, never be afraid to try or afraid of failure because one day you just might get it right and who knows what you might learn of value along the way.

Thankfully, on Steemit, Steemians see very receptive and supportive to new ideas and attempts to think outside the box.

Please comment about your own inventions and the comment (of an invention) that gets the most votes by approximately the payout will get the SBD rewards for this post :)

Happy Steeming

A friend and I came up with a great one.
Shark jerky....We had access to as much shark as we could ever use from the Japanese market, they only want the fins and the rest is a trash fish to them used for fertilizer, bait and pet food so it was cheep. we developed the flavor cures along with the right amount of smoke and temperatures. Well we came up with a name and started contacting wholesalers and stores to get a feel for the market and received loads of great feedback and everyone we talked to thought it was a great idea and thus Jaws Jerky was born...or I should say still born. Apparently Universal Studios also thought it was a great idea and their lawyer told me as much as he demanded a small fortune to licence their "Jaws" trademark oh and 10% of profits O.o
Right after that I invented a mind blowing, gut wrenching, hangover that lasts for 3 days

Hi chromiumone, just sent you some steem (I think it will work out as more than the SBD from this post) rather than wait for the payout. Thanks for the interesting comments! See you around.

Thanks Benjojo :)
Nice to wake up to some free Steem !!

Congratulations @chromiumone.

You are correct....lovely to wake up to some free Steem.....^_^

All the best. Cheers.

That's an incredible story! I can't believe they were able to insert their filthy greed into your fantastic idea. I think it is horrific how many sharks are harvested for their fins every year....apex predators safe-guard the health of an ecosystem. But if that is going to happen, at least you came up with a higher value use for the cast-offs! Jaws the film didn't come up with the word Jaws!! IP is a real drag on innovation. I really feel for you bud.

Well in all honesty......I'm going to date myself here.....it was 1987 and Jaws 3-D had just come out a couple of months before and the marketing, packaging and such were very much infringing on their trademark. We were only about 22 years old at the time as well and didn't know much about the legalities involved, we just had a great idea and ran with it.

Oh fair enough. Those poor IP lawyers get a bad rap don't they. I take back some of my indignation! Still, the way the world works dampened your enthusiasm which is still a shame! ;)

Yeah I agree with you about the apex predators and from what I understand they don't even bring the sharks in any more for the most part, they cut off the fins and dump them overboard.

Indeed. An absolutely diabolical and inhumane practice that should be stopped immediately. So very sad.

I just got a gift from steemit, which is my recovery account that was stolen a few hours ago
Would you also give me a gift :)))

I'm sorry to hear that! Did you get control of your account and funds back?

Yes right, now it's normal again @benjojo

That's such good news!

nothing but developed some unique encryption software with unique encryption algorithm :)

Bud, that's next level! Actually useful ;) Really nice!

I've tried but it has been mostly trying to reinvent the wheel unsuccessfully.

That's ok! Keep trying, you only need to strike gold once! ;)

I think I'll settle for being a productive member of society actually, I feel like that would be enough. And if I imagine something, I'll try to get it done, but no pressure.

Cool bud! We're all different and we all do what we can in our own way. Other than the fun, all my inventions have been a total waste of time!! :)

I reinvent myself all the time... that's why I'm a Demi-God.
