RE: New here, trying it out to see how it all works

It is extremely difficult to build Steem Power. Follow your account on steemd.com. Steem Power is derived from the number of VESTS on your account. The VESTS value is in the upper right hand corner of Steemd.com.

The value of an upvote is based on VESTS. (Steem Power is derived from VESTS). The system delegated 15 SP to your account that is about 30,000 vests.

The great frustration of SteemIt is that the value of an upvote from an account with 15 SP is actually worth about a tenth of a penny. Six people have upvoted your intro. Theses votes are worth only $0.02. Upvote several posts, you will see that your upvote rarely causes the dollar value to rise.

To add insult to injury. The system rounds down. A vote total that shows $0.01 could be rounded to zero.

SteemNow has an upvote calculator. The value of an upvote of an account with 10,000 SP is currently $0.94 . Apparently, there are people with tens of thousands of dollars sitting in their account.

You can look inside other people's wallets to see how much Steem Power they have in play.

You are likely to notice that some accounts routinely get huge dollar amounts for posts, even when the posts are of low quality. These people are usually working with a group of friends who upvote each others posts. Some people hire bots.

Anyway, your best hope for building up SteemPower is to search the created section of the site. The URL https://steemit.com/created/example will show new posts for the keyword "example".

If you leave positive comments on new posts by people who have a lot of steem power, they might upvote your comment and you will build up SP.

Remember. Talking to people who have little steem power is a waste of time.

My comment suddenly makes me wonder: why I am talking to you? Even if you upvoted this comment, your upvote is less than the rounding error and I am unlikely to benefit from this post.

If I were smart; I would look at the wallets and voting patterns of people and only comment on posts from people with big wallets.

Anyway, you mentioned you were into gaming. SteemIt built a social medial platform around a very interesting sociological game in which one's influence is based on the money in their wallet. It is an interesting game with an interesting strategy.

Personally, I decided not to play the influence game.

Welcome to SteemIt.
