Introduction

Hello Friends at Steemit. My name is Ubani Ariba. I studied Biochemistry at University of Benin, Nigeria. Presently, I'm a Secondary science teacher after working as a salesman and factory production manager.

Steemit was introduced to by my son who is an airforce personnel. So far, I've seen that Steemit is a sea of knowledge, and I'm happy at that. Most of my contributions will be on creative writing, including poetry.

I was born about four years to the Biafran War of 1967 to 1970. And, I want to use this medium share an experience during that war.

The federal troops started firing bullets to our village, and many people ran and took shelter behind one big Iroko tree in our village square. As the shooting intensified, one Mr. Ukata took me by the hand and ran to another Iroko tree in a nearby bush. This was because he saw that the shelter provided by the first Iroko tree was overstretched due to the arrival of more people.

As we ran, several bullets were hitting the ground around us, while some were whistling pass our heads. He dragged me closer to himself, ensuring that I was safe.

Suddenly, he disengaged his grip on me and said he had been hit. I looked at him, he was clutching his head as blood flowed our near his ear.

He told me to tell his wife to take care of their children. He also asked me to tell his elder brother to assist his wife in taking care of the kids.

I am using this piece to encourage every Steemian to fight against the spirit of war wherever we find ourselves. We should all ensure there is peace in our homes and the world at large.
