The First SteemCampUK is in Birmingham on 7th April 2018

This is the first post to introduce SteemCampUK which will be a series of participant-led events for people in the UK interested in the Steem Blockchain and its associated applications starting with a day-long unconference in Birmingham on Saturday, 7th April 2018.

SteemCampUK was suggested by @lloyddavis and he is leading the organisation of the first event, will facilitate the day and is writing this blog.

Although we've talked so far about "people in the UK", that's not meant to be exclusive! Everyone is welcome if they can make it.

The venue will be the Impact Hub in Central Birmingham. There is a booking page on Eventbrite, please sign up there if you're coming. It's described as a free event, but there will be a ticket cost organised separately as I expect most people to pay with Steem or SBD. I used eventbrite to help me communicate more easily and directly with you as a group. Maybe by the next time we run something, someone will have created some function for Steem to rival Facebook & Eventbrite for managing events!

The day will be run using Open Space Technology - a facilitation technique developed by Harrison Owen and many others since the 1980s. Groups find it useful to self-organise their work on a particular theme or topic. We all, as participants, will define the agenda at the beginning of the day, working on the things that we feel are most important. You should not be able to leave at the end saying "Well that was all very well, but they didn't talk about what I was interested in". And reporting on what we've worked on is part of the process, so if you can't make it along, you should be able to get a good sense of what went on.

We will cover the costs of the conference together (although I've said I will underwrite the venue cost in the event that nobody turns up!), payment will be possible in Steem/SBD, other crypto or £ sterling for those new to the space or committed HODLers. The finances will be as transparent as possible. There will be a travel support fund and if there is any surplus, the participants will decide what to do with it.
