'steemadvice.online' is now up and running! Celebrating the launch and introducing the community to the project.

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

It has been in the works for quite some time, but today is the day that we can finally announce the launch of steemadvice.online.

The purpose of this initiative is to provide anonymous support and advice to anyone (on or off of Steemit) that feels they have no one else to turn to.

The burdens of life and the decisions we must make can be a heavy weight to carry around alone. For those of us who don't have somebody to turn to in our hour of need, Steem Advice aims to be a refuge where one can seek assistance, guidance or perhaps mere conversation if it can be of help.

To find out more and to learn how you can make a request for help, please visit the website for more information.

All liquid STEEM acquired through payouts on this account will be used to provide STEEM rewards to authors of self-help related posts via instant transfers.

Please upvote and resteem this post to increase visibility, so that those who are in need will be able to find the help that they require.

Please also review the website and put forth any suggestions on how it can be improved upon. Thank you.

As someone who writes on steemit about my own personal struggle with PTSD I applaud this project! I have been thinking myself of how something like this could be made for this platform and then today I see your post. How Steemy of you! I hope this project does well and helps many people.

Thank you for your enthusiastic support. For now it's just a matter of raising awareness of the service, then I'm sure we can begin to make a difference in people's lives-- and perhaps even attract more users to the platform in the process.

Excellent idea, congratulations!
If you are ever overwhelmed by the no. of requests, let me know and I can jump in and help. I have extensive Steem knowledge and years of Support experience.

Thank you very much, this is a welcome gesture.

As of now we have only received two questions, but if the workload increases, we will certainly seek your help, specifically in regards to the extensive knowledge of Steem.

I will follow you as a reminder of your interest in helping.

This is a great idea. May I suggest that you include on the home page some information about who the questions are being posed to. Can anyone provide advice or is there a process to choose certain people? Make it clear that the question of the person seeking advice will be confidential and only read by the person (team?) who will respond. Or maybe you can make a choice to either make your question confidential or not. Or maybe you can see the list of advice givers and choose a specific one. Just suggestions. I love the idea.

This a thoughtful idea, though it has been considered quite some time ago.

As of now, there are two advice givers. Rather than using a standard @outlook or @gmail email account, a paid email service was set up to enhance the privacy of those seeking help.

Both I and the other who is involved with this project have separate accounts of our own on Steemit, and the option was explored of revealing those names to help promote our personal accounts further.

However. we feel that this would only serve to cheapen the initiative, so we have opted to retain our anonymity just as those who will be seeking advice will be doing.

How it works at the moment is when someone sends an email to the address provided, it is forwarded to both I and the other involved. We shall decide which questions are best suited to be answered by which person, based on our own personal life experience.

In future, should this initiative prove successful, we would hope to bring new advisers on board with more specific knowledge bases and experiences, ie health. Should this happen, new emails would be set up for specific subjects so that those who are looking for assistant will be sending messages directly to someone who has extensive knowledge in that particular field.

For now, this is more of a helpful ear and words of wisdom offered by a couple of people who have been through a lot in their life and feel they are in a position to offer great advice. What this will become a few months down the line, we shall all have to wait and see.

I do want to stress that anonymity is of prime importance to us and we have explained on the site under the support tab what steps we will take to ensure their identity remains anonymous.

However, it is our expectation that those who decide to use this service will protect their identity from even us, perhaps by using a pseudonym and alternate email account. This way, we would not even know who they are, and would be unable to share that information with others even if we wanted to-- which we wouldn't.

Thank you for the comment and please feel free to share any other ideas that you feel could help.

Yes, this is amazing @steemadvice keep up the good work.

Great job! But 1 serious point, is the black background and white text contrast. This is not a good design aesthetic for any site. People just don't know this has reading issues, and should not be used to make a better readable site. Thanks for this consideration.

This makes sense. It was hurting my eyes somewhat when developing the site. It was the first I have made and I learned to do so exclusively for this project. I will be updating it constantly as I learn new things and find more content to put on there. A change in background colour will be the first on the list.

Thanks, @krnel.

What colours would you suggest for easy reading?

You can do some research on it, such as https://www.viget.com/articles/color-contrast

Lighter sights are always easier for reading than dark sites. BUt do a bit of learning or some trial and error and you will fin something that fits. White or dull white with some not pure black text works well as a general thing.

Thank you. I will give it a go. Should my efforts prove unsuccessful, there may have to be a bounty offered for a better web site design.
