Greetings esteemed Steemians! @sunvaar invited me.
I'll be posting my artwork and sharing my behind-the-scenes creative processes.
My name is Paul Petersen. I'm a 68 year old artist who has had a variety of art-related jobs.
I've been a sign painter, an advertising art director, a storyboard artist, an equine watercolorist, and a medical illustrator. My latest passion is creating geometric abstract digital art.
My user name, spherical art, is a phrase I use to describe a particular method of generating digital art via three dimensional spheres and a virtual camera. I'll be posting my artwork and sharing details on how it's created.
This art was previously posted on my Instagram, Twitter, and Flickr pages. Links are below.
Other topics that interest me:
- Photoshop
- motion graphics with After Effects,
- running,
- yoga,
- fiction and poetry,
- nature walks,
- stained glass
- golf
- gardening
- and baking (I'll post about the pies my mother taught me to make!)
I'm married to Jean and live in rural Pennsylvania. I have two grown children and three grandkids. We have three dogs - Bouviers, that we treat like kids.
I grew up in Compton, California. I got my start in art by tracing. With six brothers and two sisters, finding an unspoiled coloring book was really difficult when I was five!
So when I finally got a new one, I was afraid to color in it. I wanted it to be pristine. It occurred to me that I could make tracings of my favorite pages and color them! I got my Mom’s onionskin typing paper and traced over the outlines on the “E is for Eagle” page. While I was doing it I wondered if the coloring book artist had traced his line work, too.
By third grade I realized I wanted to be an artist. My teachers discouraged tracing, which made me want to do it even more. When I wasn’t copying pictures of ships and hot rods, I wanted to make money – literally. Here's a sample:
I got a Batchelor of Fine Arts degree from UCLA in '72, where I attended on a track and field scholarship. That education was about becoming a fine artist, but I couldn't see a path to income when I graduated. I got a job drawing retail products for a drug store chain's newspaper ads, while I studied at Art Center College of Design at night. That school near Los Angeles specializes in turning out high level designers and artists for the commercial world. After a few semesters studying advertising design, I made the trip to NYC to land a job in advertising. Maybe I'll post an article about that experience, because it was very much like the show Mad Men.
@sunvaar saw my work on twitter and invited me to Steemit. I've been posting my art on Twitter for about two years and have quite a few followers, but the interaction there is limited compared to what I see here on Steemit. I like that I will have more room to get into the details here, and commenters will have the same luxury. There is so much to share and learn, while we earn!
"Esteemed" is a great way to describe all of you here! The origin of the word dates from the 15th century word ais-temos, "one who cuts copper," i.e. mints money. I'm looking forward to cutting some copper with you on Steemit.

Welcome to Steemit of you! Glad to have you on Steemit. Continue doing good post.
Hello Long, and thank you for your welcome! I don't know anyone from Viet Nam. I enjoy swimming as well. When I broke my leg as a youth, the doctor recommended swimming to strengthen it. Later I joined a team and competed in freestyle and backstroke. It was my first experience in putting up with pain in order to get better at something. A valuable life lesson! I hope you enjoy my art posts!
Welcome @sphericalart 🙌

Hello@sphericalart, Welcome to Steemit.
Nice intro!
Thanks for your welcome and compliment @zabiangold ! I read your Introduction, too, and will be interested to learn more about biomagnetism and the improvement to balance. That's so important as we age. These are trying times for Venezuelans. I hope there is a peaceful outcome.

Great page, i see one of your interests is gardening so i left you a upvote and followed you, come check out my blog and maybe return a vote on my cloning article, my page is centered around gardening tips and eelctronic waste and being enviromentally friendly :)
Thanks @ewasteguy for the welcome! Yes, I am interested in gardening. I like everything from asparagas to zuchinni and from the ash tree to the zombie palm. My last involvement was blueberries and roma tomatoes. But I sold my home, said goodbye to all my plantings and will be living in a rental for the next year, while we make plans for another homestead. I'll be growing some potted tomatoes soon, once it stops snowing here!
Nice, never herard of a zombie palm myself, i have a couple blueberry bushes myself,,,. I currently have a tomato i cloned from my romas last fall growing in the house, its around 2 and a half feet tall at the moment its what i did the article on, im passionate about cloning and preserving genetics when you find yourself with a great plant.
I will have to check out your process. I assume you get a more identical plant than just by saving the seeds and planting those. I had the best blueberries at the home I sold. Six bushes with staggered harvesting times. They were on a super well draining soil in full sun, but I made sure they got extra water from the roof's downspouts. Last summer I got 7 gallons of berries!
thats something i wanna try to air layer clone but havent yet is blueberrys, as i have one bush that does way better then my others.
Welcome to Steem! That art looks really awesome. Not sure where in PA you live but if you're ever in the Philly area let me know. We have a Steem meetup once a month in the city!
Thanks for that warm welcome and invite @yabapmatt ! I'm about two hours away from Philly, near Hazleton. It's great to meet a witness and developer! I will check your blog to see what your working on. I hope you enjoy the artwork I post, and some of the quirky methods I use to create it. Just getting my feet wet with crypto currency info, so I figured why not earn while I learn? Nice to meet you!
That bit on the origin of the word "esteemed" was a great addition :)
Also the piece that you shared to demonstrate spherical art is really interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing more. Perhaps I will share some pics of sculpture that I've done if you keep inspiring us like that. Thanks man.
Thanks, @shookriya for the welcome and nice comment about "esteemed." I was in advertising for many years and love word plays. Yes, I will be posting artwork and talking about process. I hope you enjoy it. I look forward to seeing some of your sculpture!
