Hey Guys, My first post, this is me giving you a glimpse of who I am

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hey guys, I’m new here on Steemit. Let me give you an idea of who I am. It used to be really difficult for me to open up to people until these last few years, I’m still kinda working on it. Don’t get me wrong I’ve always been really friendly but just not so good at opening up or talking about things that really matter or being emotional. Anyways, here it goes, my first post as a Steemian.

Just to let you all know there’s no gifs or pics here, no word formatting,  I’d do those in later posts once I get the hang of using steemit , just me going kinda deep into some things about myself and just say whats on my mind and what I think is relevant so bear with me.

I was introduced to Steemit by a friend when I was looking for good altcoins to invest in. He told me about STEEM and it’s platform which got me hooked after I did some reading on it.

Ok, lets go to the beginning where it all started. I was born in the beautiful city of Mombasa which is in Kenya, but if you go there right now you wouldn’t be able to see it’s beauty in the city center coz of how polluted the place is right now. I mean on one hand you have amazing food, a wide range of cultures and people, beautiful views and sceneries all over but on the other hand you find litter and rubbish everywhere you turn your head when you’re in town and it’s just so sad and it’s not something you can change easily.

I don’t have much recollection of how life was in Kenya when I was young coz when I was about 4 or 5 years old my family moved to UAE and settled in Abu Dhabi, all together we’re 5 kids and I’m the second oldest one at 23 years old. The UAE is a really nice place to be if you don’t mind the price of housing and education, it’s also just super freaking hot in the summer but there are many nice things about it.

I guess you’d say I had a normal childhood, but I never really did appreciate my family much until recently when I moved to China for further studies. One of the things I miss most here in China is the Adhan/Azan, which is the call of prayer for Muslims, I could always hear it no matter where I was in Mombasa or UAE but not so much here. I’ve been here in China for almost 6 years, learning MBBS (Clinical Medicine) and just graduated this year. I actually wanted to be a game designer and engineer then I wanted to become a psychologist but my dad convinced my to settle on medicine, I don’t regret any choice I’ve made on this though.

At the moment I’m teaching English in one of the cities here, btw teaching and education is a huge market in China. I’ve been doing this for the last 3 years, I actually started teaching to make money for exams I had to pay for, ones which I failed coz I was too busy having fun and being ignorant of the consequences that come from our actions. I couldn’t bring myself to tell my parents about the exams coz they’ve already done too much to get me here where I am today. I’m supposed to be a role model, the second oldest of 5 kids so I had to fix the situation I got myself into alone, then again in the beginning I felt alone but I never really was, I have 2 great cousins here in China who’ve been with me through most of the things  I’ve been through here, and I thank God for them coz if they didn’t help me grow up and mature I probably wouldn’t have been able to graduate on time.  I was able to get the money but there were still many problems along the way which I’m not gonna get into.

Anyways, after graduating I applied for a Chinese course which I’ll be starting next week so that I could stay longer, I’m on a part-time work study visa (typical study visa but it allows you to work as long as the job doesn’t interfere with your classes). I’m staying longer to make some cash for my Masters degree in medicine but not sure what speciality I’m gonna get into yet. Once I have enough money I’m heading back to Kenya to get my doctors license which could take me 1.5 - 2 years then I’m coming back here to China to continue with my Master's degree and Ph.D.

I got into Bitcoin (BTC) a while back coz thought if I try to save money as BTC it would be worth it in the long run, then recently one of the new teachers at work is investing in Altcoins and convinced me to start investing too, and that’s how I found out about STEEM. I’ve also invested in some other Altcoins I believe would bring long term gains.

I’ve done many things I wish I wouldn’t have but I guess that's life, we learn from our mistakes. I’m glad I came here coz this place opened up my mind in so many ways. I’ve learned so much here, I grew a lot, and lemme say there are times I wish I was still a kid or still have fun like crazy coz growing up isn’t easy, changing yourself for the better isn't easy either. Life isn’t always easy but you just gotta push through. One mistake I really regret is that I’ve wasted so much money on things that don’t really matter in life and overspent on things I didn’t really need, so please take it from me - most of the things people buy are stuff they don’t really need and buy on impulse from knowing they can afford it, these days I ask myself “ Do I really need this in my life and how is it gonna make my life better” before buying anything or spending money. If it’s something you don’t need to survive or it’s not an investment where you’ll get your money back then it’s not really worth it. But again if you’re super rich and don’t care then who am I to tell you anything. Everybody’s entitled to their own opinions.

I like to think I give really good advice and I’m good at understanding people and things. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask.

I won’t get into any personal relationships in my life coz I feel like it wouldn’t be nice to people if I put up personal stuff about them.

Here a few tips for starters snce you probably won't get any advice from those who comment under here, here's what I gathered thus far.
It's tough to make money at first so if that's your main cause to be on here grind that into your head straight away, that doesn't mean you shouldn't post content, you should, but enganging with others in the comment sections to grow your following is your best bet. Which categories?

Probably the introduce yourself one and the photography section but you can choose things that you have knowledge about too and then go from there just know that there is a lot of crap on here so plowing through that just to connect with others can be tough. Cheers.

G'day @said-kini! Welcome to the platform :]

As you are new to steemit, getting those big upvotes are gonna be hard so maybe you want to try @MinnowPowerUp where you can earn up to 30% more steem power than just directly powering up! It's a subscription based daily upvote bot that draws its power from a delegation pool. I made this post to explain the system in more depth and show how I earn over $1 a day in upvotes.
