Almost one month in!! Why I love Steemit!
So I am almost one month and and as I see people are introducing themselves with the I am new photo of name and date joined. When I made introduction originally I had never viewed a post, was barely sure what was acceptable, and was just kind of throwing myself out there with no idea what a Steemit was.
Now that I have been on here for almost a month, have made some posts, and have gained over 50 followers (I know its not huge numbers but to me a follower means a fair amount) I now have a much better idea of how to introduce myself. I am a full time EMT as a work thingy (jobs I believe they're called), military veteran (iraq), a gamer (just look at my posts), and a new father (6 weeks old!).
I am also a writer. I have been looking at options towards what to post and where and how do really do it, and it looks like no matter where I post I will probably unveil first on steemit. Lately I have been building the skeletons and background of the worlds I will be writing in so hopefully I should have some work to post at a relatively not far off date.
Why Steemit is becoming my go-to.
So while I am riding the ambulance between calls and my reports get done I frequently whip out the phone so that I can amuse myself in some way, catch a flick of news, whatever. For the first few weeks on steemit I was still reflexively opening up facebook and seeing 70 people all share the same picture or video over the last weekend and people screaming at each other in caps over politics or whatever. I don't mind opposing views, I mind the social media nerd-raging over opposing views. I was a member of the US military overseas in Iraq. Everyone I worked with was from every following of life, and in the Army there is only two types of people. Shitbags and soldiers. If you are one you tend to avoid the other. But that's the only discrimination that I saw overseas. I enjoyed the company of the Iraqi people, not a fan of their police but I do like their army, good soldiers. I mention that when I mention facebook because the only reason I keep facebook is so I don't lose contact with anyone I was deployed with. Outside of that I could replace facebook by googling meme's under "recent" and I wouldn't miss it.
What I like about steemit is that I am finding myself opening chrome or the esteem app so that I actually check this. As opposed to my friends on facebook I actually like hearing and reading what people on here say. If I hate what someone says I can simply stop following them without some kind of a fallout in real life because they work with me. On Steemit I enjoy the fact that most of you (except my 2 friends I know are on here) are strangers to me. So I guess I value the opinions of strangers over the asshats that have friended me one facebook over the years. Actually yeah, that's basically what I'm saying.
And I love it. I haven't started following too many people yet, although I will be soon. I am trying to keep my posting active as well as my comments, and I am juggling a 6 week old, 2 jobs, 2 dogs, writing and more into one plate. I am starting to get better at it, and I will try to be a better Steemian.
So this is me re-introducing myself, with the official style photo, and why I love this place. I hope you enjoyed the read, feel free to comment so I can check out your profile to follow you. Thanks for reading!
Cheers man and welcome to the community. I am trying to untangle my life from Facebook as well. People are so much more supportive on Steemit and react with less toxic energy when an opposing view is posted. Take care!
Nice to hear someone else recovering from Facebook! Thanks for the welcome, going to check out your page. I know I saw a kitty, I must learn more about the kitty.
Two kitty's are mine and one was a friends. Nothing like a nice kitty to cuddle at night.
Indeed. I have dogs now but I used to have cats. I liked snuggle kitties.
Congratulations on ur one month in here, I hope you enjoy and achieve great success here, you have my vote, cheers

Great idea @rotfoot, I joined a bit over a month ago as well. It is a huge learning curve from your normal social media. Getting things figured out as well. You do have a lot on your plate, look forward to see some writing. I have done a few posts but I think after reading I will be concentrating on commenting on great posts and introduce yourself posts. It takes a long time to create a well written, good layout, intriguing post, and we want the right people to read them!! Good luck out there in the sea of Steem!
Thanks. Some of the writing is ready to post now but I would prefer to have something like a whole chapter to post in a few pieces so no one has to wait for the completion.
Great post buddy. I'll probably put together a reintroduction post myself soonish. Also, I got a new person interested in steemit! So soon there will be three RL people you know on here!
Omg! It'll be like I know people!
Congratulations on your milestone so far. Keep up the good work.
Please feel free to check out @GLOBALFOODBOOK
Seems pretty interesting, thanks for giving me something new to follow!
Absolutely! You are welcome
Welcome aboard @rotfoot
Glad you can see this is no Facebook
Good luck
Thanks for the welcome!
Yeah I agree with your points, this is why I also like steemit. I feel more free here than on Facebook with regards to posting.

It is much easier than trying to figure out if you're going to piss off a distant relative or some co-worker. And I actually post my thoughts on here, not just sharing something that randomly wound up on my feed from someone else who did the same thing. This place is awesome.
Good to have another writer on here, there's quiet a community growing of story tellers.
That's awesome, the more the better. Story tellers were the first historians after all.
It takes the courage of a warrior to burst the "filter bubble". Congrats and... welcome!
If you ask anyone that knows me you will find out that is my filter in real life as well. Except with patients, I am ultra nice to patients. Hard to break that with typing though because you end up having time to re-evaluate what you said before you send it out.
Thanks for the welcome!
