My Very First Blog / Post EVER! –{Getting Over A Fear}--

I mean it’s not my first post on the internet. I’ve commented on videos and pictures before.

Though I've NEVER actually written something online that others might read, about me.

Why? I think it’s a bit of that universal insecurity of...you know…sighcaring what people think and worrying that something I say might bite me back later… I think both are plausible and inescapable kind of feelings, but maybe it’s time I got over them.

So why finally make a post after all this time?

Well, I read a self-help book. Yup. I read “The 4 Hour Work Week” by Timothy Ferris, which I’m not sure if it can even be classified as a self-help book, but it’s definitely along the same lines.

Now, two things to be noted: the book is 11 years old so a lot of the entrepreneurial suggestions might be off; and Tim (I think) undersells the entrepreneurial part a bit much by constantly repeating how making a solid business out of thin air is/can be “a cinch”. However, neglecting all of that –and this is not a review– Tim is definitely right about some things. Mainly about re-prioritizing by re-evaluating everything in your life from habits to relationships. Most importantly, how to go about doing so.

I’m not here to sell his book to anyone and I’m sure his suggestions aren’t anything new either, but it really clicked with me. I couldn’t put it down! I think I’ve realized why.

Its corny but…I want better things for myself and I want to pursue my silly dreams and adventures!

And to do any of those things I do need to make some sort of online-income. All in order to live more flexibly …which is how I came across the 4HWW book. That being said, I'm sure that the underlining gist of any self-help book, unsurprisingly, is to take action. So that’s what I’m doing.

Dude…like who are you?

You might think I'm some 14 year old online with these f*cking run-on sentences.

I’m actually a 25 year old student –still? Yes—doing something he definitely doesn’t hate, but definitely doesn’t want to totally pursue. I’m the archetypal average run-of-the-mill student, which unsurprisingly wants to start blogging because he thinks that it might be a better use of his time in the long run. Insert an appropriate and relatable meme here

My nickname is Gus, Gusty, Gusto, G or Gustav, actual name Gustavo –like the Breaking Bad character? YES. And NO, I haven’t watched it --

...Pls get to the point…

a beautiful pic of my face

I go by Gus or whatever is easier for people. I live in Canada, Ontario. I’m currently in school doing a computer science related program. I REALLY want to do other things and they involve traveling, photography, writing and design. I guess the themes of my hobbies are encompassed around exercising, language learning, computers, sciences and finance. Since this isn't a dating-app bio I'll specify my hobbies elsewhere some other time. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I’m completely unsure of what I’ll be posting about on 'ma blog', but as I’ve mentioned it’s only start. I also going to set up a separate blog outside of SteemIt, more C.V. like, basically more professional. Though my next step over the week will mainly be to conquer my next fear. Which is to… Post a video of myself online.

That’s going be another demon in and of itself. But I’m stating it here, I will do it!

What else? Is that all you got? Why SteemIt and not just this other “professional blog”?

Dunno. I do not know what to talk about. I’ll figure it out for the next post. It will probably be about something on my mind.

I found out about DTUBE through YOUTUBE. I was watching videos on how some creators are making the shift to DTUBE due to YouTube’s like 3rd (?) Ad Apocalypse (creator guideline issues) which has been shaking some people off of the platform. So I decided to make an account. Once I learned more about the whole block chain and Steem Cryto aspects to the whole community, it blew me away. I still have a lot to read on it, mentioning any more of my very limited knowledge of it without proper research just seems ignorant.

Currently I see DTube and SteemIt as an immediate and meager start to that online source of income, do you feel me my dude?

I also have been playing around with the idea of making content to put on YouTube, but my semi-rational fears of someone I know finding my content was/is too great. I do plan to post things on YouTube as well but I like the idea that DTube and Steemit still have a small community.

For the professional stuff, I'm just scared that if I post about something more personal or anything along those lines just wouldn’t fly professionally. So I want something separate to reference on Linked or GitHub

So what are these silly adventures?

Call me basic, because I secretly want to be part of the #VanLIfe. Yes, you heard that right. I’d like to live in a van so I can go to national parks in the USA and Canada to climb, hike and take photos! Big whoop! Wanna fight ‘bout it? As you can see I am a bit defensive about it. But from my research it’s the most optimal way to see things (outdoor stuff) in Northern America.

Have you even lived in a van for a week? Can you handle it with your with suburban-living and your Play-Doh-like constitution, boy?

NOPE, I haven’t. That’s why I plan to do it for a week this summer. You got to dip your toes before plunging yourself in, right? That's how the saying goes? Anyways, I'd like to go Nevada if its possible, if not somewhere in northern Canada. I have been camping and I love it. It's one of my favorite things in life! So I think I’ll like it, but yeah you never know.

I think that’s it for my first blog post ever.

I plan to this once a week, and more than once, if I feel like it. Its more for fear-conquering at this point.

I’ll be putting that video up by the end of this week, not sure about what but it will most definitely have a blog post.

PS – I’m aware my crummy style of writing (poor format, long run-on sentences, overuse of formatting selectors, probably wrong tenses). But I haven’t written anything other than to-the-point analytical reports or comparative essays. I’d love some constructive criticism on my writing…because I don't have much experience with blog writing .

PPS. - English is not my first language. Seriously.

PPPS - If any of you have blogs, I'm interested to know which hosting services you're using. I was thinking of just making a domain on goDaddy or SquareSpace, they seem like most hassle free and up to date, let me know :)

PPPPS - I have an Instagram Account (@r.dasilgus) that I'm going to add Photography / Art Stuff there isn't anything there yet, shhhh!

SteemIt: @rdasilgus

DUDE. Let me tell you something, you don't have to fear writing because you are amazing! I can't believe this is kinda your first post. You're made for the blogging/vlogging/ content life. I absolutely love the way you tell your story. Keep on writing and you'll improve. I've been writing for awhile (not on Steemit) and I had the same insecurities and fears as you. Writing more helps to reduce that. Chris Brogan once said, "confidence is repetition". The more you do it, the more confident you'll be. I still have bits and pieces of insecurity when I write but I choose to put myself in that uncomfortable spot so that I can grow as a writer. I hope you do the same.

Cheers,
Athirah Syamimi (@athirahsyamimi)

Thanks for the confidence boost! I'll definitely keep pushing that uncomfortable spot! Not gonna lie, I thought you made up Chris BROgan , looked him up, and was surprised to find a new online mentor to follow :) lol

Welcome bro . Just got here too
Still thinking on how to start introducing myself and making it interesting..

Welcome to Steemit! Glad you overcame the fear! Nice intro and good luck with the van living! I stayed in my car in a trip out west for two nights and certainly not comfortable, but economical and liberating! Look forward to some art stuff, followed!

Thanks for reading! Its doable though, right? Living in car? lol

Oh yah! Defiantly doable and cool!

Say what you want about long run-on sentences, but these beauties carried me through the "minimum word count" my first semester, although I can't credit just the run-ons, or can I?

All joking aside, welcome to steemit.
Cheers!

Thanks man! Run on sentences make up 80% percent of my daily dialogue, I'm worried I'll never learn, they make sense in my head lol
