Introduce yourself! 5 tips you should remember:
New school, new workplace, new neighborhood, all of these have a common denominator, you are NEW. And what is the common thing that most new people in a new environment has to do? Of course, you need to be familiar and people around you need that too. This is where introduction takes place. Introducing oneself might sound easy but to most people it was tragedy. Whether we like it or not, introducing ourselves is the beginning and the start of many things. So, here’s the list of the things we should always remember when we are caught in a situation called “introducing myself”.
#1 Short but meaningful
A one minute introduction is enough. Start with your name, the reason of your transfer (if not too personal), some trivia about you (choose something worth sharing) and your expectation--- it is a good thing to let other people feel that you are interested in a new place you’re in.
“Hi, I’m TheWriteOne, I am a blogger and I chose steemit to showcase it. I am very much new in this field but I will do my best to put heart on this. It is my dream to publish a book. I am looking forward to meet many good writers and bloggers, and may I be able to give something worth sharing.”
#2 Eye for an Eye
“Eye contact is more intimate than words will ever be”. People are always after connection, if they feel distant then there will be no building of relationship. Eye contact also shows your sincerity so it’s a good thing to look in the eyes of the person you’re talking to. Look at them but do not stare, it will be threatening.
“Ah, how I wish you can see my eyes”
#3 Confidence is the key
Not too much, just enough confidence will help you a lot. Do not boast but do not be timid. People are normally judgmental but you have to be ready. First impression also usually last so try to establish a good image. As what Ms. Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach affirmed, “Be confidently beautiful with a heart”.
“As a writer, it is essential to be confident, despite judgment and differences, writers ought to keep writing as what dreamers ought to keep dreaming.”
#4 Humorous tactic
Adding humor when introducing yourself is a very helpful tool as well. Cracking jokes may be effective unless you’re jokes usually crack you. In your one minute introduction, sharing something that makes people laugh is a very good sign that they can be interested in you. But remember, some jokes can either make you or break you. Anyway, your goal here is to introduce yourself, you cannot please everyone, so just be yourself, and let right people laugh with you.
“Jokes crack me, but I’m humorous, trust me”
#5 The Power of Smile
If you are not a naturally born joker, then this tip can be of much help. Smile, who in this world cannot accept a smile? It is a weapon and a gift. Start and end your introduction with a smile. People, trust me, adores people who smile than those who doesn’t, at all. So whether you are on your best day or your worst day, never hinder yourself from smiling. You need it, and people around you need it too.
“So… accept my biggest and sincerest smile my dear readers, to more writings and appreciation. Gracias!”
