Oh look - it's a newbie!

Hello Steemians – hello world! I am so excited to join the steemian community!
I don’t know whether it’s because I’m an “oldie” – yes, I was born I the mid 70’s – but it took me a while to catch on. Can you believe I only got introduced to Steemit less than a week ago?! Currently feeling a little stupid that news of this revolution hasn’t made it to my little nook of the world, but there you have it. Perhaps it’s because I reside in the frozen north, where life is slow and news travel even slower?

Anyway, I am Michele and I am from Norway. I grew up on the west coast of Norway, but now I live in Sandefjord, a quaint little town on the eastern shores.

2017, as it turns out, was a year for trying new things on my behalf. It didn’t stem so much from a desire to re-invent myself, but rather I found myself at a point in need of combating the drudgery of everyday life.
So I took up, and instantly got totally hooked, on the classical trade of upholstery. In my new-found hobby I continuously find relief in a variety of ways: I can feed my artistic inner child with vibrant colours and inventive combinations. I can use my hands to undertake physical work quite unlike my computer-based professional life. And I can, after hours of laboring over an object, stand back and say the magical words: “I. Made. This”! There’s not much that beats that feeling!

For my second attempt at new things in 2017, I found myself at the local tennis courts. Yes, you heard me right – pushing mid-forties and a newbie at tennis! Yet again I find myself hooked, and my spare time is a constant squabble between whether to upholster an armchair or battle it out on the tennis courts.

We Norwegians pride ourselves on the beauty of our countryside, and going for a walk, just for the sake of walking is a huge thing. We even have a saying: “ut på tur, aldri sur”. It basically means that going for a walk will put you in a good mood. That even if you are in a foul mood, going for a walk will somehow magically make it great again.

So if you decide to follow my blog posts you can expect to see posts from both seaside and mountain walks – both summer and winter time, pictures of our grand Norwegian countryside, details on upholstery projects, the odd frustrated spiels on learning a new sport at a mature age, and hopefully many many more subjects as life just happens here in the frozen north.

Let the good times roll, and steem on!

-Michele

Hey....you're not that old!!! Greetings and welcome to Steemit! It is a lot of fun and there are so many apps and things to do here so check out DTube, DLive, and DSound just to name a few. As well, check out my page sometime. I hang out around DTube a fair bit, but also enjoy some novice photography. Welcome aboard!

Thanks, there’s so much to learn, so much to explore, so much to look forward to! Can’t wait 😊

Great introduction @lil-mich and Big Welcome to the best platform ever.
I see myself in your introduction, since I am late 70's child too and just like you I love doing things with my hands and just being busy, and computers or phones and social media are the last things I spend any time on, but with steemit, it's a different story, I'm addicted to it.
I love playing tennis, it's so much fun and walks in nature are the best.

I wish you all the best here.
Just a few tips. Don't get discouraged and just do your best and have fun, because it can be very hard at first, we all go through it, but if you stick with it and have fun and love it, you will succeed here.
The best thing is to comment lots on post, just like you did on mine and eventually you will find your group of people that become your best friends, because people here are amazing once you get to know them.
You can also use up to 5 categories on your post because that will also help you in your post being noticed more. It can also be helpful if you are reading and commenting on posts that are of your interests, this way you get to know your own group of people of the same interest.

It's late right now and I can't think of anything else right now, but it looks like you will do just fine here, like I said, if you love what you are doing, you will succeed.

Have a lovely weekend.

Sometimes in life we meet people that seem like live in a parallell universe! I love it! 😄
I’m feeling a bit discouraged at the moment, so thank you for your tips and your support. I wish you a wonderful and peaceful week. 😁

I'm sorry that you feel discouraged, because I know how that feels, I felt that way here too and so do many, many people, but I can promise you that if you don't quit and just do what you can and just love it, it will come and it's so worth it at the end. And I promise you that most of us did go through this.

Welcome Michele. I just read one of Helen's posts about the grand adventure that you gals went on. She suggested to look into her friend the newbie and I'm so glad I did. Steemit is really such a wonderful platform. There is some nonsense on here but if you follow the paths of your interests there is so much wonderful content. I have found so many people on here with similar realities to mine....I love it.
I am really intrigued by your upholstering ventures! I have always been curious about the craft. I too am around your age and am in process of reinventing myself and expanding on passions new and neglected.
I love hearing your Norwegian saying ut på tur, aldri sur, I may just have to get a patch for my pack that says that :) Getting out and moving with nature is always the cure for all of my stresses and woes.
Thanks for your wonderfully written intro. I look forward to following you. Happy steeming!

Thank you for your warm welcome @mle777! That’s what I love the most about Steemit: to meet people with remarkably similar interests to mine, even though we live in very different locations. It’s like we live parallell lives, if you wish. 😄 In the beginning I felt almost dizzy with everything going on with this platform, but after a while I started finding what interested me, like you say, following my path. 😊 I’m glad you are curious about upholstery. I am planning on making a series on upholstery, showing some tools and techniques, starting with the basics. Just takes some time getting around to it, but I hope you will follow the journey! 😁 I will follow you too- happy Friday! 😄

Great to have you here Michele. Hopefully your future postings about upholstery will get me motivated to do the dining room chairs that I haven't been able to find the time for.

welcome to steemit where all the interesting writing will be get the rewads

Thank you, this is fun!

Hello! Good luck and welcome to Steemit ! :)

Thank you, luck is probably what we need 😊

I skied down a mountain once. It can be fun.

Welcome Michele! ... and I am with @captainbob! You aren't old! I admire your drive and determination to combat "the drudgery of everyday life". How often we get to that place and stay there instead of getting into solution! I wish you a long and illustrious journey on Steemit!

Hi Michele,
Welcome to Steemit! 😀
Looking forward to seeing your posts and pictures about your mountain walks. I have been in Norway so far, but I only was in Oslo (which I totally love) and had no chance to see the countryside.

Chris aka smallstepschange

Seeing as you enjoy mountain walks, perhaps it's of interest to you to check out the Norwegian Turistforeningen at https://english.dnt.no/routes-and-cabins/. Its a trekking association that operates more than 500 cabins across the Norwegian mountains. They have a network of marked foot trails, and you can spend as many days as you wish just trekking from one cabin to the next. Not seeing a single paved stretch for days, if that's your liking. :)

Hey Michele, wow, that is really nice! Thanks for making me aware of the Norwegian Trekking Association. Being in the nature for days sounds very appealing to me!

Christoph aka smallstepschange

Så gøy å se deg her inne! Håper du finner deg til rette og trives. Gleder meg veldig til å følge deg :) Helen
