Introduce Myself & Lesson 1: Learning Guitar Nominal Level 1 for Standard Tuning

Introduction

This new steem address will be publishing free information about how to play guitar. All content owned by the production will be released CC0 so you can use this content however you want, even sell it to others. @fatkat, this video shows some of fatkats music aptitude. But we do not warrant anything so if you are unsure whether content is owned by this entity and thus public domain or an underlying work, consider highering a member of the legal monopoly to render you advice about "your law" you apparently don't know.

Goal of Catalyzing Learning & KopyKat/Buckey Guitars

Our Goal is to become a major learning guitar resource and help disseminate culture artifacts that demonsrate the movement. Once we get big enough we hope to manufacture and sell kopykat style guitars as in the video sell them for steem/sbd, and give them away to our fans.

Two Important Maxims that Inform LearningGuitar.ga approach

Maxim 1: Repetition, The Most Important Part of Learning?

Maxim 2: Being in Tune, Most Important Part of Playing more than 1 Harmonic Instrument Synchronously

Goal of Trying to Be Most Efficient Approach to learning guitar theory, and how to play rhythm and solo good too

The goal of this initiative is to be the most efficient approach to learning the gitbox. To that end one important constraint is our perspective discussed below of information hierarchies and how there may be some related to optimizing the learning of geetar according to some value judgment..

Hierarchy of Information Acquisition Guiding Informs Our Philosophy

I remember many moons ago I took a community college psychology report. I remember the professor asserted many times that one can conceptually think of the three hierarchical levels to learning. First the lowest level was nominal, having names, before one can have a name/distinguish a from b, any comparative analysis might be too decontextualized. Names and association of names with attributes helps us create heuristics that might help us advance our perceived interests.

One nominal levels of categorization exist creating abstract relationships and analyzing them. Abstration is thus the second level. Finally once one has discovered what if any objects in a system are dependent and which are independent and what are the rules of each thing in reference the third stage is realized: conceptual.

Though I have not performed experiments and lack the funds for survey or investigation via qualitative or quantitative methods for analysis that might help gauge the efficacy the the above three hierarchical levels of information acquisition for confirmation or falsification, I think the ideas are interesting and may be worth considering in how one might structure an approach to a task such as learning guitar.

Thus this lesson and the first few lessons will focus on basic nominal level of information. Only once things have been named can relationships between things be analyzed—because perhaps it would be meaningless without differentiation?

Nominal Round 1: Notes & Intervals Perspectives, & Navigating the FretBoard

Two useful perspectives to learning guitar are the notes and interval perspectives. Notes perspective can help preserve information, while the interval perspective can reduce memory space.

Notes Helps Preserve information

The type of instruments, guitar and such we will be discussing today have 12 notes before repeating, they are as follows, also know as the chromatic scale:

A, A#/Bb, B, C, C#/Db, D, D#,Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab, A (last one repeats)

Note Perspective of Chromatic Scale

Key increasing clockwise, decreasing counter clockwise.

Memorization Heuristic: Difference between B & C and E & F

If you notice there are no #/b between B and C and E and F. So if we just memorize those two places rather than the proper 12 notes, we can reduce the amount of computation required to parrot back the proper names of notes.

Intervals: Reduces Complexity by 1/12: Navigating Fret Board Up And Down

Instead of looking at everything as notes, what if we wanted to come up with a notation that kept the spacing of tones relative the key of the score in reference? To master a scale for all 12 keys instead of requiring 12x7 amount of discrete data points to manage can be reduced by 12 if we just look at spacing of tones in relation to the key of the piece.

The 12 intervals we have before repeating are:

1, b2, 2, b3, 3, 4, b5, 5, b6, 6, b7, 7, 1 (last one repeats)

Memorization Heuristic: Difference between 3 & 4 and 7 & 1

If you notice there are no b4 or b1, of the terms used to assign unique indexable values to an array of all intervals.

C Ionian: When Intervals Differences Align with Note Differences

In the Key of C Ionian, which has the same notes as modes: D Dorian, E Phrygian, F Lydian, G Mixo-Lydian, A Aeolian and B Locrian, which are the same notes but in a different order—****repetion important part of learning: MAXIM 1*****--in the Key of C Ionian, the Intervals 3 & 4 and the 7 & 1, align respectively with the notes B & C and E & F respectively.

Heuristic for Notes
Just memorize that every note, A through G, has a #/b between the notes denoted by a letter, except for E & F and B & C
Heuristic for intervals
Just memorize that every interval, 1 through 7, has a #/b between the intervals denoted by a number, except for 3 & 4 and 7 & 1

Circle of 4ths/5ths Navigating Fret Board in Standard Tuning Across

The circle of 4ths are the same as the circle of 5ths but only in reverse. These circles help us navigate across the fret board translating pitches and harmonies from the E string to the A string and elsewhere across the fret board as might be needed.

Circle of 5ths Notes Perspective

Circle of 4ths: Interval Perspective

Maxim 3: B Tuned Half Step Lower as 3rd, Why? To Repeat back to E

Repetition is an important part of learning and maxim 3, a phrase that should be repeated incessantly is why is the B string tuned as a third while all the other strings tuned as 4th in standard tuning? This is so it repeats back to E. And is similar to why a 5 string base goes is frequently tuned:
B, E, A, D, G

Welcome to Steemit. You will do well here. You have alot to offer! Great!

thx, hoping to have some videos up soon. I hope the weekend goes well for you!!

You are a genius! Glad that we got to meet. Wish we were closer I would pick your brain more!

def, hopefully will have an event in Ohio at some point if you want to come up

Welcome to the platform. Keep posting good content and try not to waste so much space on the public domain.

yea, ill try to cut it down, just want people to know they can do whatever wit anything i own intellectually, and that they can sell it to all their family and friends and not pay me a dime.

I have just gone through your post it is well explanatory.Nice one....am a newbie here on steemit...please I would like to know if all these you explained in your post also applies to the bass Guitar....would be looking forward to learning from your post.God Bless

yes, much of it does. I will do more in depth posts talking about bass guitars "Repetition is an important part of learning and maxim 3, a phrase that should be repeated incessantly is why is the B string tuned as a third while all the other strings tuned as 4th in standard tuning? This is so it repeats back to E. And is similar to why a 5 string base goes is frequently tuned:

above should be about bass guitar. 5 String bass tuned as 4ths starting with B. I should have a videos of this content ready soon.

Glad you liked it!!

Thanks.....i would really like to watch more of your videos, you explain so well.

thanks should have a bunch of videos up tonight and then explanations of each for the next week or so, then a whole next section ad finitum

A very BIG thank you I appreciate ...i love music so much.... I just followed you, and I would appreciate a follow back.
