Yes, you don't actually get notifications. You will have to check every time. And you earn here, by either
- Creating posts that people like and they vote on.
- By voting on people's posts and comments.
- Just by having conversations with people.
And as far as the money, I haven't figured that one out exactly. I am more here just for the friends, the money is just an added bonus to me. I do know that after 7 days, the money that you have earned will be put into your wallet, and you can claim it. For more information, just search it inside of steemit. They may be able to help more than I can. Like I said I'm still new here so I don't know everything.

It is the very least I can do for my community. I love to spend time in the introduce yourself feeds and meet people. I also feel like if I can help anyone as they are new here then I am helping my community.
