Time to finally introduce myself to the Steemit world!

Hello everyone! My name is Jennie. My brother, Adam, (@countryinspired) told me about Steemit almost a year ago. I got about as far as opening an account and that's it, lol. He's been prodding me to start getting active on here. My default responses are either 'I don't know what to write about' or 'I can't write.' He tells me that is nonsense. So here goes . . .

About Me

I am a 38-year-old mother of one. My son recently turned 16. (Yikes) I live in the exciting state of Illinois. I've lived in the country for just over three years now and I LOVE it! I have a dog, four cats, and nineteen chickens. (We would've had an even twenty, but one met its fate at the talons of a great horned owl.)

I am a book designer at the University of Illinois. I primarily design the covers for the books we publish. Occasionally, I get to design the interior layout as well. I love my job! All the covers I've done so far can be seen on my website at https://www.jenniferholznerdesign.com/. I am always adding new ones, so check back often!

Things I Like

I consider myself a little different, at least based on the random, weird things I like. For one, I am a HUGE fan of the Dukes of Hazzard — so much so that I have a tattoo on my back of the General Lee. Can't say I've ever ran into anyone else who had that!

I also love the Muppets — not so much the Sesame Street ones, but the good old Muppet Show ones. I own several books about them and about Jim Henson. They just don't make TV shows like that anymore. I also love the Henson movies "The Dark Crystal" and "Labyrinth." Fun fact: David Bowie was not Jim Henson's original choice for the part of Jareth, the Goblin King. He was originally considering Sting, Prince, and Michael Jackson for the part. It was one of Henson's sons who suggested he use David Bowie. Thank GOODNESS for that! I had the biggest crush on Bowie as the Goblin King. ;-)

Anyhow, that's just a few of the things that make me, me. I hope to get to know you all and I look forward to setting aside time to post on my blog and read others' posts!

Oh, and to verify I'm really me, here's the link to my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/jfish78

Welcome to Steem! You brother's blog was one of the first that I found, and is still one of my favorites to follow. I was tickled pink this evening when my husband @lydon.sipe told me that @countryinspired's sister was on Steemit! Welcome again to the wide world of Steem! I am sure it will be an even better place with your contributions. :)

I appreciate that compliment!

Aww, thank you! Yes, my brother is a pretty good writer and always has been. Not sure I will be able to come up with as many things to write about as him, but I'm going to give it a whirl, lol!

You had me when I saw you are a fan of Dukes of Hazzard - attempting Roscoe's laugh - then I saw you enjoy the Muppets, lol. I enjoy following your brother's blog and I know I'll enjoy yours now. Welcome to Steemit!

Thank you! I LOVED Roscoe and his laugh! Not sure I'll be able to keep up with my brother, lol. He posts almost every day!

Haha, yes! That is true. I remember him posting once where he talked about treating his blog like a business - he certainly does that.

Welcome to Steemit. I like your brother's post. Good luck.

Welcome to Steemit community Jennie. I think it is awesome that you have your own "homestead" going on over there in Illinios. I too am working on saving to buy my own little slice of heaven in the woods. Living in the city i am somewhat restricted as to what i can raise myself, so for now i have a small modest vegetable garden. Once i can make the move to the woods i plan on going full out... garden/farming, beekeeping(as much for that i find bees interesting as i enjoy the honey), hunting, etc.. unfortunately that will have to wait a little longer. I used to watch the Dukes religiously as a teenager(as a teenage boy i think we all had a Daisy Duke poster on our wall). I love the muppets.. i think my favorites were waldorf and statler, with Animal being a close second. i still can't believe Henson sold Disney the rights to the muppets.... they're not the same anymore. Unfortunately i'm not such a bowie fan, as i prefer FFDP, Slipknot,Disturbed, AC/DC, Journey, Steve Miller Band, ELO, etc... well to be honest, i listen to pretty much everything from classical to hardcore heavy metal... and on a rare occasion older country western. Anyhow, i'm beginning to ramble on... Glad to have you here, upvoted and followed... thank you for sharing, and introducing yourself to us.

A slice of heaven in the woods is an awesome prize to work for! They are highly sought after these days. Following!

Nice to meet you @misterd21 and thank you! I hope you find your own slice of heaven soon! After living out here, I don't think I could ever live in town again, lol. I love the peace and quiet too much! I think beekeeping would be a fun hobby! Free honey, too.

Welcome to steemit @jenerallee78. You'll do great here. You'll be thanking your brother

Thank you for the welcome, @gringalicious ! Looking forward to reading others' posts.

Oh My God, i just love the Duke of Hazzard Tattoo. I remember the General Lee came to my home town (St Helens in the UK) back in the 80s and i was the only kid asked to sit in the drivers seat for a local newspaper shoot. (i was actually upset when they opened the drivers door to let me in #ShatteredMyIllusions)

Ah man! Yeah, I bet that disappointing to see the door open, lol! A TRUE General Lee has its doors welded shut!
