Is There Any Gift Better Than Your First Bow?

A BOWHUNTER IS BORN

Here is a snapshot of one of the biggest days of my life, Christmas Day, circa 1967 (I’m the tall one on the left).

In this case I got exactly what I wanted, at exactly the right time in my rapidly expanding outdoor universe. I am forever grateful, for a bowhunter was born!

As you can see, my little brother is quite happy too. He has spent his share of time behind the bow, but turned his enthusiasm to boating and saltwater fishing off of the Jersey shore. But that's another story.

My sister never became a hunter, but I give her credit where credit is due. She had to live with us, and later, put up with whatever wild game we managed to drag home for dinner. However, her husband does hunt. She has become a wonderful cook of venison and other wild game though, and I would like to think that I had something to do with that.

Thankfully, there have been a few decades of bowhunting adventures since.

Long live young boy’s, the still wild piney woods of southern New Jersey, and bows.

Give a boy, or girl, a bow today!

Hi @huntbook love this post, however, if my family had to rely on me to bring home wild game I am afraid they would all starve. For every attempt I ever made at shooting an arrow, as soon as I pulled back the string and took aim, and then let go of the arrow it would drop at my feet. So yes the family would starve. LOL @racykacy

That does make it hard to acquire dinner. I can tell you, though, as long as I have been bowhunting my effectiveness does not seem to increase. In fact, I think I am a downhill slide. Still trying...

Daily Inspiration was created to curate new authors who are not getting much traffic to their account. It is meant to support authors under a reputation of 50. Unfortunately, the vote isn't worth much financially at this point.

This is not a bot. I read, with interest, your article on deltiology (I hope I spelled that correctly). It reminded me of a post I read several months ago (here on Steemit) of another collector who found an entire rack of WWII postcards in a country store in Virginia. The proprietor sold them all to that writer for face value. What a steal.

I also read about fishing with your kids (and the drawings). I see that you write for a hunting website, which is awesome. You really aren't going to benefit much from a post that shows that your articles are actually being read. But here it is nonetheless. It is merely encouragement for you to remain engaged with Steemit. Hopefully the vote on this account will actually reward authors financially as well as with written support.

You can support this curation project by following and upvoting the daily inspiration posts. The rewards will be used to power up the account to increase voting power organically. Today's inspiration comes from Maya Angelou:

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.

I am truly grateful for the inspiration. I suppose I would say that once a writer, or poster or commentor for that matter, gets by the initial anxiety of self consciousness the next desire is to get read. I would also say that I, like many others, write because I need to - and really that is enough. But hey - It's also great to know that someone else has enjoyed reading it. Thanks again. Best...
