My Intro, Including How and Why I Work Remotely

Hello, I'm Gilligan... actually, Gilligan is my dog, but I've always used his name online because I just love him so much. He's friendly, sweet, and helpful which is what I aspire to be. Here's his picture:

I live in the Pacific Northwest in the US and I have two little boys. I've been a member of Steemit for a while, but I haven't introduced myself because I wasn't sure what I wanted to say yet. :) I wanted to say something that could help others... hopefully I've found a way to do that.

My Goal

I’d like my posts to help solve a problem that I’ve experienced myself. I’m sure there are many of you out there who have been in a similar situation.

When my son turned 7, he started having some medical issues. Those issues developed into disabilities which was very difficult for him. I needed to stay home with him, but I also needed to work so that I could pay medical and related expenses.

In those days, remote jobs weren’t common at all. It was already a stressful time for us, and searching for a remote job wasn’t easy, but I eventually found one… and then another, and another after that.

Now that I feel like a remote work veteran, and home life has calmed down a bit, I want to show you how and where to find remote job opportunities. Whether it’s to stay at home with children, help take care of aging parents, or to travel and explore the world, I feel like everyone should have flexible employment options.

Don't Get Stuck

What keeps people from getting that work-from-anywhere dream job? Here’s what I usually hear from people:

1. “They are impossible to find!”

It’s true, they can be difficult to track down, you can search for days and not see one… and it can get pretty discouraging. But, if you know where to look and stay vigilant, it’s completely possible!

I see new remote jobs being posted every week, if not every single day - these jobs are out there and I want to bring those to you. Some won’t be what you are looking for, others may not be flexible enough, but eventually I hope you’ll find the perfect fit.

2. “They must not pay much if you can work from home.”

This usually just means the person doesn’t think they’ll be able to find a remote job and they want to dismiss it so they don’t have to try… see #1 above.

Now, there are some companies that don’t pay well, but that’s true whether it’s in an office or on the beach, right? The truth is, many remote jobs actually pay more than location-based jobs. Why? Because remote employers are often start-ups, or forward-thinkers, who want a dependable, motivated team!

Inspiration

Ignore these common misconceptions, don’t let them stop you from chasing your dream. You can work from almost anywhere and get paid well for doing it. You're a visionary, you can do it! Take it one step at a time, watch for my job listings, research any opportunities that you come across, and don’t be afraid to reach out to companies that you admire – you never know who’s getting ready to hire.

Here is a list to start you off on your work-from-anywhere vision. These are all current as of today, and I didn’t find them on job boards!

@akkha

I liked it! I noticed that your account is couple of months old so thanks for the intro, it's been an intresting read. There is an upvote for you and we're all waiting to hear more from you!
As you only recently joined the steemit community it can be hard to recieve lots of upvotes so my advice would be to give Steemfollower a go as you can earn up to 5x more steem than just upvoting by yourself! It's a simple and safe vote exchange that is free to use. I also recently made this post explaining that in more depth and it has become my most upvoted post yet.

Congratulations @gilligan! You received a personal award!

Happy Birthday! - You are on the Steem blockchain for 2 years!

You can view your badges on your Steem Board and compare to others on the Steem Ranking

Vote for @Steemitboard as a witness to get one more award and increased upvotes!
