Hi Steemit! Introducing myself - A Photographer based in Scotland.

Hi Steemit!

So after a couple days on Steemit and several posts to get a feel for the place, its time to introduce myself! My name is Karsten Moerman and I am a photographer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Photography is not my day job, but it is my passion and one I enjoy sharing with others online. Aside from various photography gigs, by day I work in IT and learning technology at the University of Edinburgh. By night I work in a cemetery (for a tour company) that is famous for two things; a dog (Greyfriar’s Bobby – immortalised by Disney) and an active poltergeist, though he’s only every attacked me once, but I’m still a sceptic and think there is a perfectly reasonable explanation that doesn’t involve ghosts.

I was originally born in England to Dutch parents. From England we moved to Germany, Holland, back to Germany, America, back to England, India, Indonesia and then to Scotland were I attended University and picked up an MA in Economics and an MSc in Information Technology. I had always enjoyed photography as a kid, but never gave it much thought or took it seriously until I finished University. At that point I started investing time and money into it and started teaching myself the fundamentals.

I try to practice my photography as often as I can. I do this by exploring and photographing the city I live in, and by taking trips to other parts of Scotland and to places further afield. One of my aspirations is to be a proper travel photographer. For these trips I often take my ever patient girlfriend/tripod carrier (who is kind enough to help) with me.

I work with a canon 5d mkii, various lenses and a dji phantom pro 3. Regulations on drone flight are quite restrictive in the UK so I don’t get around to using the drone as often as I’d like, though I’m working on changing that.

I’m excited to be sharing my work with you all here on steemit and hope that I will also learn something from you all. I’ll be sharing my photos, travel stories, photo essays and the occasional tutorial.
