Hello Steemit World!!!

Hello Steemians, my name is Nicholas and this is my first post to steemit. I feel very lucky to have found steemit and am greatly looking forward to help build the community that is Steemit!

-My girlfriend's dog Mermaid and I saying hello to all you Steemians!!!

Where I come from and what made me who I am

  • I am 28-year-old, Minnesota native. I grew up in a small town, 2 hours south of Minneapolis. Snowboarding is one of my biggest passions in life, so at 19 I moved west to “God’s Country” Bozeman, Montana to begin my exploration of America’s wild west. I lived in Bozeman for about 3 ½ years. While living there I met some amazing people and was lucky enough to ride some amazing places all over the west. Montana and the people I met there truly helped shape me with a mindset the doing what you love and exploring your true passions in life.

  • On June 2011, I left Montana for Fort. Lenardwood, Missouri where I would attend basic training in the United States Army. I eventually graduated Basic, after having passed out of dehydration on the first day, to the amusement of my drill instructors who preceded to fan me with the large brown brimmed hats, and admittedly explaining how they desired to read the letter that I would write home to my mother telling her how I did not survive the first day. Well I survived, graduated and proceeded to Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio Texas for 16 weeks for Combat Medic training. Followed up with 3 weeks in Fort Benning Georgia for Airborne School. Finally arriving at my duty station on January 3rd, 2012 in Vicenza, Italy as a combat medic for 3rd Platoon, Attack Company, 1/503 Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade. I spent the next 7 months trying to convince myself that I was a badass, beer drinking, gun slinging, medic for one the most prolific Airborne units in the United States Army and on July 7th, of 2012 I left for my first deployment to Afghanistan.

-Our two fallen, Sally on the left and Horsley on the right. "Paratroopers never die they just slip away."

  • Sadly, just 10 days after our arrival and our second dismounted mission outside the wire, we lost two men in my platoon. Specialist Brenden Salazar and Specialist Justin Horsley. They were killed by a dismounted IED, which had also injured 3 others, whom I did my best to treat and evacuate to a higher level of care. Having been Memorial Day yesterday in America, I find myself thinking about my two friends and fellow soldiers that we lost that day. I know for myself and many of my fellow platoonmates, from the loss of Sally and Horsley's lives we have found motivation and passion for ours. For if they were not able to continue to live their lives at the young ages of 19 and 21, then I am sure as shit not going to waste mine and dishonor them. Luckily for my platoon and company, we did not lose anyone else the rest of the deployment. Then is was back to Italy for 2 ½ years of the best years of my life. With a new found drive and passion for life, I did everything I possibly could. Traveling all over Europe, snowboarding in some the best mountains in the world and drinking some of the best wine Italy had to offer.

                                                                              Where I am today

  • Leading me to where I am now. I currently just finished my Junior year of college at Gustavus Adolphus, a private liberal arts school in St. Peter, Minnesota. I am enrolled in the Nursing program there and have one more year until I graduate and become a licensed RN. I also work in the Emergency Room in a nearby town. I love the faced passed action, and one on one connection that I can have with people in some of the worst days of their life.  Despite my medical background I grew up most of my life thinking that I would one day take over my father’s small business as an independent stock broker. He groomed me from a young age, to learn a little about a lot of things as to be able to carry conversations with all walks of people. He taught me to always have my eyes and ears open for a business opportunity and never discriminate against anyone, as their idea and ideals may be great! I learned from a very early age how markets worked, and could give you retirement advice on common mutual funds before I was 18. I accidentally found my way into the medical field through the Army and absolutely love it. However, I feel that I have developed and now refined financial skills and information that could benefit many people on Steemit. As, much of the information and strategies people use are quick fixes and not thought out with sound judgement and analytics taken into question.

What I will be posting on

  • I will be posting about what I know about financial markets and more recently crypto currencies. I have been involved in crypto for about a year and have done very well for myself as most have in the recent months. However, with the increasing rise in popularity and seemingly exponential rise in prices, the time for sound investment decisions has never been more important. Like we know from the dot.com era, it can all come down in an instant. So please give me an upvote and a resteem if you like m content so far, and I truly am looking forward to become a part of this new and innovative community here on Steemit! Cheers… Nicholas
