Last Hour Of Appreciation On My Intro Post! Everyone Is Welcome To Come And Show Your Support!

Hello, fellow Steemers and Steemettes!

Recently I have decided to pick up the pen and start writing blogs again, while also becoming an active member of Steemit in the process! Currently, I am on break from school and want to dedicate this time to help the Steemit community grow into a very powerful and resourceful community. I already have a few posts but they are not very thoughtful and were honestly made just to see what Steemit was really about but I hope this post will clear things up with who I am and why I am on here! Cheers!

Who?

Hey, I'm 21 and I will be starting Medical School soon! I live in Canada (BC) and just graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Bio. I am very passionate about learning biology, poetry, gardening and I love reading new information on Bitcoins, Ethereum and Steem. My goal is to become an Ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) but my dream is to rid the world of blindness, starting by reversing macular degeneration. Currently, I'm waiting on entering the Medical School in the same university that I graduated from (UBC). While I was waiting, I discovered something strange... a blogging website that paid people houndreds of dollars to post blogs! I didn't quite grasp the concept at first, or understand why some posts made thousands and some made only a few cents. That is, until I decided to give Steemit what It really wanted from me, my time.

Now I'm here, writing a blog to explain that very decision!

What?

What have I been doing after deciding to put more time into this unusual platform? Well, Steeming, of course! I've been Steeming almost everyday since joining and at first I tuned in to only see the top posts for the day but slowly learned to go through the different tags and see even more posts! I honestly felt like an old grandpa that had just learned to changed the channels with the remote. By then, I had realized that it's only been 3 or 4 days since I have discovered Steemit and was already hooked onto it, I knew this wasn't going to be good for my health. I was too far gone in the steam to turn back so I decided to stay here and officially use this platform to bring out the creative writer from within me.

I have many old blogs I can share but I want everyone to see my new blogs first.

Where?

Born and raised in Squamish, British Columbia. Moved to Vancouver after High school and have been living in the city ever since! I have traveled to a few different countries but have enjoyed most of my travelling days in India because of my last trip. The last trip was in 2013 but It was a trip I would remember and cherish for the rest of my life. My dad and I had started a fundraiser for setting up an Eye camp in India and we got a huge donation from our hometown, so my dad put in even more money and made it a reality, before I knew it, I was packing my bags ready to leave for a trip that would change my perspective on the nature of helping others and even life itself. I wish to write a new blog about my last trip (the last blog I wrote is really old) so I don't want to talk too much about it here but we ended up helping thousands of humans receive surgeries, examinations, glasses and even medicine for free! No matter what race, religion, status or colour you are! You have to stay tuned for the amazing pictures of the land and the people with an updated blog on our experience at the camp!
I wanted to let everyone know that story because that is exactly where I will be going when I accomplish my goals. I will be travelling around India and providing help to any human being, using the best of my abilities. For free.

My pictures are from the eye camp, sikh temples located in extraordinary places and my journey on the road.

Why?

Why am I on here? Why am I talking? Why are you still reading? Because Steem. Steem brought us together here, and Steemit is the reason why you are reading this. Steem, along with this website, is providing us with an invaluable platform for writers to share and readers to help critique. Bloggers can use this site to make decent money (most likely more than what they make for blogging on other platforms), but that isn't what I am interested in right now.. Sorry that came out wrong, I am always interested in making money! but the MAIN reason why I am still on Steemit is because I will never forgive myself If I gave up this amazing opportunity to be able to write and express my creativity while receiving honest and skill-building comments on my work. I see no bad side to this site at all.
At first the money was attention grabbing and made me want to just reproduce quick articles from the web so I can make a few bucks with minimal work put in. But that idea broke apart quickly because of users like @pharesim @grittenald and @tuck-fheman spotted me and called me out on copying content... yikes! I know, i'm sorry! Won't happen again! :P After that, I was so brought back that I didn't go on Steem for one WHOLE day, but leaving it alone made me think about the potential work I could have put on here and got reviews for. So I decided to give up on the idea of Steemit being a pump and dump, get rich quick website, and embrace the community for what it truly is, the best god damn audience you can ask for.

From zero to hero

Now

Now, I remember back when I joined on July 4th (the first big payout day) and think about that small community it was before I arrived. I loved to read the comments and watch the community discuss ideas and the future of Steemit with each other, I wanted to be a part of it soo bad! I'm a huge crypto-currency enthusiast that started off by buying and selling Bitcoins to trading Ethereuem and eventually investing in Expanse (@Expanse) and now in Steem (Steem investment paid off pretty well since Steem is above $1 right now!). This will be the last coin I invest in because now I have to keep saving up to pay for my Medical School tuition. Speaking of my schooling, I wanted this community to know that if anyone ever up-votes one of my blogs, then the money I receive from Steemit will all be going into a saving that I use only for my school tuition. I have been paying my schooling all by myself so far and I intend to keep paying by myself so any up-votes are highly appreciated, you're helping out a good cause!

What now?.. Well now we wait.
We wait for the community to accept or reject my ideas and who I am.

Until then, Keep on Steeming!

Cheers!

I wanted to thank EVERYONE that has up voted this post and commented. It means a lot, thanks guys!

Thanks! glad to be here.

Congrats on med school! looking forward to read your med school stories soon :)

also, how did you get interested in crypto currencies? it must be an interesting experience doing that while pursuing med school

Well, my brother has been talking about Bitcoin for years and I finally decided to listen about 3 years ago. He told me the story about Satoshi and I was hooked. He was a very interesting person. My brother told me about him creating the software and disappearing when it become successful years later. The price sky rocketing to a thousand dollar per bitcoin that lead to the original miners becoming rich out of no where! and then how it fell after the Mt. Gox episode and multiple website hacks and frauds have been going around. He pumped interest into it because he knew the Bitcoin would make a comeback and the price would bounce back a bit before It fell completely flat.Through that I started looking into bitcoins more every time a article came up about it.
Later, I discovered Ethereum, right before it blew up! It had just beat out Litecoin and was sitting at $3-4 dollars by the time I discovered it and then It blossomed out of no where into a beautiful $20 Ether flower. Through Ethereum I discovered Expanse, a coin that was built off Ethereum and it was gaining some traction as I was researching it. It didn't blow up like the Ethereum but it did gain some trajectory on the chart.

After Expanse, I was laying low, just focusing on my school work for awhile.

Then one day I randomly decided to open up the Slack app on my phone and go to the team chat for Expanse. There, I saw a comment from one of the admins of Expanse allowing someone to use a section of the website for a blog on www.Steemit.com. He also added a comment saying "I hope you make $5000+." Now I don't want to sound greedy, but my eyes literally turned into dollar signs...
I came here thinking I could make that kind of money but without putting in the effort like everyone else. But I was wrong.
The rest of the story starts in the blog.
