Introducing Basics To Living To Steemit!
Hello,
We are a family that decided to homestead. We have been married for 24 years, we have two children and two grandchildren. My little brother lives with us on the homestead also. I am a disabled veteran that served in Iraq as well as other places around the world. When I came back from Iraq in 2009 I had and still have lots of medical problems, we lost our house due to the fact that I had to have a knee replacement which left me laid up for a year or so and have back problems as well as other problems. So not being able to pay the mortgage we lost our home. We thought about what to do and we made up our minds to start homesteading. So we went looking for land that we could afford and was owner financed and someone that would work with us. We happened to come across the 11.43 acres we have now. It was raw land and it was something that we could afford and work a little at a time to get it where we needed it to be. We started getting some of it cleared where the houses where going to be and where we was going to put animals as we got things in order. We have not made it real far along yet but we are slowly but surely getting there. It was cleared and then we got power on the property.
Then we needed to get a septic tank in so we saved up and got that installed. We were renting a place in the area and it was hard to put money back while we were doing that so, as soon as we got the septic and the power in we started living on our homestead.
We have a camper and a motorhome, so that was the start of it all. We built a small pallet cabin on the property which was 13x14 and we were on the way. We was hauling in water for what we needed because we made a deal with a well driller to drill us a well but when we were ready he backed out. We then went and bought 275 gallon totes and we had a neighbor that would let us fill up a tote so we hauled water in and pumped to the other 3 totes we had. He was a great help and continues to help when he can.
It was a struggle for quite a while and is still a struggle but we get it done. We finally got a well in though. We got in touch with another well driller and made arrangements with him to pay so much down and make payment to him for the remaining amount. So we have a well also on property now.
We have worked hard at getting it started and will continue to work hard. I have limits on what I can and cannot do so it is slow, but it will get there.

Kumusta! how are u doing now? well, as a fellow 'disabled' guy, thanks for showing me your homestead and sharing your story. its nice to see such determination and with a good attitude. :) your land looks pretty raw, but also beautiful and full of potential. following u and upvoted.
Thank You! It is raw land but we wanted to make it what we wanted and what we wanted. The only way to do that was to start like we did.
Congrats! Homesteading is a dream of mine as well.
Homesteading is lots of work to get started and more work to continue. When we get going good, the best part is knowing where your food came from and growing things yourself.
