This sounds like a great idea and really realistic if this is done successfully I can see great potential in Steemit, maybe even overtake Reddit? What do you guys think?

Actually, Steemit is doing just fine! They are already a strong competitor against reddit.
My thing is, lets create ANOTHER platform that competes with say: instagram or youtube or something entirely new all together.
The more social networks with Steem built in, the stronger we are :)
That's a really good point! And I would imagine it is possible.
