Regency of East Aceh (Acehnese: Acèh Timu, Jawi: اچيه تيمو) is a district located on the eastern side of Aceh, Indonesia. The district also includes oil-rich districts other than Aceh Utara and Aceh Tamiang. This area also includes the base of the Free Aceh Movement prior to the enactment of Military Emergency since May 2003. Prior to the implementation of this Military Emergency, the area of East Aceh included black areas, especially in Peureulak and surrounding areas.
Transfer of the Capital
Previously the capital of East Aceh Regency was Langsa City but with the approval of Law no. 3 In 2001, the capital of East Aceh district was moved to Idi Rayeuk with a population of about 34,282 inhabitants (Population Census of 2010).
