Beaker Street?

Unless you were a teenager in the late nineteen-sixties and early seventies the name wouldn't mean much to you. However, if you happened to be young and alive during this era of pre-FM radio and also lived in the midwest or deep south, YOU would have had the privilege to listen to this underground music program.

It was hosted by Clyde Clifford on the 50,000 watt KAAY AM radio station out of Little Rock, Arkansas and was a favorite of the weekend crowd at the local drive-in.

The "after sundown" AM signal was said to have been so strong it was able to reach as far away as Montana and as far south as New Orleans. It certainly was a favorite of the teenagers that "cruised" on the weekends in the small town of Oakdale, Louisiana, where I grew up.

To this day I remember the, "other worldly, eerie space," sounds that Clyde used to fill the gaps between the classic rock songs he played.

It is such a fond memory of my early life I decided to take the name and use it to identify myself on almost every social platform I join!

My real name is Chip Knowles, and I'm just an ordinary kinda guy with many interesting hobbies and an abundance of life experiences.

I stumbled across Steemit, on account of my interest in cryptocurrency speculation, and was amazed by the novelty of the idea!

The platform draws me, because it seems to be an ideal place to write about the things I enjoy and perhaps help someone that may benefit from my peculiar knowledge base.

Perhaps gather some valuable crypto as well!

I think I can bring value to the Steemit Community by sharing bits and snippets of my hobbies, life experiences, discoveries, humor, and titillating anecdotes from time to time.

I still live in that small town, and my wife and I have raised two fine young men.

The oldest is out of school now and working as an A&P (airframe and power plant) mechanic.
He wants to follow the footsteps of his "Ole Man" into an aviation career.
This young man is accomplished aircraft pilot and is working to further his ratings and licenses to enhance his value in the aviation community.

Our other son is in his fourth year of Engineering School at LA Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana.
He has a full ride scholarship for four years but recently informed me he is now on the "five year" plan!
He is also a regular player on the University Rugby team and has plans to join the US Navy after graduation.

Intense Rugby Star!!

You may have guessed by now but we are very pleased with the way these boys have turned out!

Stay tuned for many, MANY anecdotes on the trials and tribulations of parenthood, but for now we will turn this page and move on!

I make my living as an aircraft pilot, and look forward to retiring soon.

I'm not the sort of person to sit in the easy chair and click through the channels to entertain myself, so I'm constantly looking for new things to improve myself.

My hobbies will take most of my time when I decide I've had enough of the monotonous routine of a steady job.

Recently my wife has encouraged me to enter the Craft Fair "vendor" occupation. The success we had during this last holiday season convinced me that selling the items we make at these seasonal fairs will probably occupy most of my time in retirement.

I am an avid woodworker. The skills my father taught me as a boy, have served me well in life and I enjoy making things with my hands.

Below are the types of things I made for the 2017 holiday season.

Between us, the Missus and I, we should have a full life when we become empty nesters.

I have done a little exploring on Steemit and have already found numerous interesting people that I have begun to follow.

It will take me awhile to figure everything out, but I hope to become a "power" user of this platform and a regular "poster" of content here and a valuable contributor to the videos on DTube .

I don't want to give away all my secrets at once so I'll cut this introduction short.

If you liked reading this please let me know in the comments below.

AND!.......If you follow me I'll be sure to follow you too!!!

Thanks fellow Steemians!!!

CARRY ON!

This introduction gets a welcoming wave from @healthy-home

I am going now to peruse your posts, and I imagine you'll get a seal of approval on at least one!

Peace

Thank you! I appreciate the warm welcome and the support too!

I love the wooden comb btw, it looks amazing. Welcome to steemit and have fun. =)

Thanks! I have several more styles to show off..... I'll post more pictures when I write a post about how I make them! You know, they are the best thing for long hair...no static electricity!!

Welcome aboard Chip! Will look forward to more of those woodworking skills!

Thank you! I plan to share some video soon......still trying to build a head of Steem!

Looking forward to it. And then links on where we can buy those combs and cutting boards!

All right. Got the name. Isn't that a UoM Grizzlies cap you are wearing? Used to live in Missoula. Looks like you did well with your sons. congrats. No easy task in our strange world. One of my "bucket list" goals is to get my pilots license. If I do well here on Steemit... I'll be able to pursue that dream. Peace.

No, that is a Grizzly Industrial hat. I'm a woodworker and they make lots of industrial type tools. I went to their warehouse in Springfield MO and bought the hat there. I wrote some stories based around Missoula. The "All The Girls I've Loved" stories. There's one in there about the hot springs in the mountains near there. I'll let the imagination decide if there's truth woven into the fiction. I think that particular one was about Lauren.

Indeeed! There were some shady ladies up there back in the day!

Hello and welcome @beekerst. I fall right into the demographic you talked about in your intro post. I possibly listened to some of that music. Maybe you're not the type of person to sit and click through channels, but here you're definitely going to have to do that :) Comment, comment and comment! Welcome to Steemit and good luck!

Ha! So true. And thanks for the comment advice!

Thank you again! I'll do that!

:) One more tip, don't upvote comments and replies so much, there's a thing called Voting Power, you can see it here: https://steemd.com/@beekerst , the more you upvote the less % is, and automatically your upvote is worth less, accordingly, it recharges for 1% per 1 hour (I think)
