The oldest still standing building in the world Newgrange, County Meath, Ireland

The burial chamber was built around 3200 BC, making it older than the pyramids and stonehenge. And today like every winter solstice will allow the light to enter the inner chamber illuminating it just like it did over 5000 years ago. At least weather permitting, which looking out my window I don't think it did this year.

A lucky group of 50 are selected by lottery every year to enter the chamber and witness this amazing spectacle. But maybe more amazingly is the fact that a mere 50 years ago the site had been left derelict, local kids were even known to drink cans of beer inside. Until in 1962 a restoration began. Now roughly 250,000 visit the site every year.

It has since been made a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the most important megalithic structures in Europe.

Here is a picture of my own that I took inside a few years ago, I highly recommend a visit if you are in Ireland.
