Era of immense Negativism

Why so CRITICAL?! I know it sounds similar to “Joker’s” famous dialogue from we all know where. Although he didn't mean it literally, as in he was not really asking people to not be serious and be happy. What went on in his mind is a different debate. But I mean it literally when I ask - why so critical?! I am sure if we all think carefully we can realise the world is full of critics these days. Everyone has an opinion about everybody.

As I mentioned in my earlier posts that I will be writing about my thoughts and experiences and about situation of medical professionals, but I just want to lay some groundwork before. And well these are also my thoughts which I would like to share.

There is a massive wave of negativism, these days. Recently, I experienced this on International Women’s day. It's a day dedicated to women all around world. It's about celebrating womanhood. It's a good positive day, right? Standing for something positive. But on this day as well I saw, lot of media agencies and some celebs posting negative videos and messages. Some describing plight of women, and some about ‘what’s the point of celebrating a day when there is so much racism’ and someone else speaking about poor health standards. I mean how are all these related?! I get it that people talking about women empowerment and changing mindset. But what's the point of talking about other stuff. It's a international day, can’t we just be happy for them and wish all the women and make it a special day for them? Why can't it be a good thing. Why is it so difficult to not focus on problems for one day and just be in a festive mood.

Negativism has crept in minds of people, so much so that we all have become experts at pointing out negative in everything. We just forget rest of it. Focus on negative aspect. Let it be any festival or event. There are all sorts of issues raised, environmentalists, NGOs. Nothing can be just a reason of happiness. If a person comments on a video on youtube - I love this song, the next comment is ‘coz u r a retard’. Just because he or she does not like the song, the one who likes is a retard. Why? Who are we to judge? Where are all this so called issue creators rest of 364 days? They have to speak exactly on the day when someone else is basking in glory.

All I am trying to say is, that we need to start appreciating good things and take events more positively. I know I sound like a old man, but it's the truth. Now, we all blame advent of social media for all the nonsense happening today. If after reading above if some of you agree with me, then you might be thinking that yes, it's all because of facebook and twitter. But are they the real culprits in spreading negativity.

I recently had conversation with one of the colleagues. She said, that it was her 6 year old son’s birthday party. All his friends of similar age group were invited. And she said they were all busy playing games, or watching something on their, phones, or tablets or whatever they had. It was time to play games and nobody was interested. They were all happy in their own virtual worlds. This is the effect technology has today. But, do we blame the kids? They are kids what do they know?! Then whom do we blame?! So, for negativity drive on social media, whom do we blame. Although internet is the conduit, but we are the sources. Social media is aiding in spreading but we are the ones spreading. So to end the cycle we need to change our mindsets.

So next time we see someone celebrating or commenting or posting something, lets just be happy for him or her, and keep negative emotions to ourselves, because I know they will emerge, as we have developed a habit. But at least let's start with stopping the spread from us to others, and eventually we can work on our mindsets too.
