Contentment - The Secret To A Happy Life

in #inspiration6 years ago

They say when life gives you a lemon, make a lemonade. I stressed it out in my previous post that life isn't designed to give you everything of your desire. You can't be having everything you wish to have. You can't be getting everything you dream of. That is one cruel truth about life.

You may be riding an old sport car while your friends are cruising in the latest Rolls Royce jeep and no matter how carefree you seem to be, there will come a time you want to be in the same level with them. Like, ride what they ride, wear what they wear, eat what they eat, do everything they do. That is who we are. We are humans - we always want something better than what we currently have. And when we don't get that on time, we become broken, tired and sad, eventually. I understand that that is how it is. But I will ask you some questions which I'll like you to answer yourself truthfully.

  • Ever thought some people of you mate can't even afford to get that old sport car you're tired of riding?
  • Ever thought that some people could hardly eat twice a day while you complain of eating same food everyday?
  • Ever thought of the homeless while you complain about the old house you live in?
  • Ever considered those that have been seeking job and couldn't secure any why you complain of the low pay from where you work?

Pearl S. Buck once said this:

Many people lose the small joys in the hope for the big happiness.

In what way are you not happy with your current situation? You can never be happy until you start to appreciate what you have that others don't have. Start to think about those that are below you and not just those that are higher than you. Start considering the fact that you aren't better than those that lack what you have conveniently acquired, because in reality, you seriously aren't better. The truth is you're just being privileged.

I can't forget this brilliant quote from our very own Oprah Winfrey:

Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough

Do you think you can ever be happy without being contented with what you have, the current life you live and everything about you and the people around you? Nop! I'll end this with this famous quote from the legendary Leo Tolstoy:

A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbor — such is my idea of happiness.

My dear reader, be contented with everything you have and that happens around you, and you shall forever be happy.
