A Year of Quotes: Day 17

in #inspiration6 years ago

Of all acts of man, repentance is the most divine. The greatest of all faults is to be conscious of none. Thomas Carlyle.

All men have flaws. None of us are perfect, and one time or the other, we have done wrong to our fellow man in either our words, actions or lack thereof. And you can be sure we will do it again.

The only way we can be better humans is to be conscious of our faults and daily failings and to continually work on them. The one who insists to himself or others that he has none will end up being the worst, because he cannot work on faults he does not acknowledge. Worse still, he will commit the same crimes over and over again without remorse, because he will never see them as wrong.

Because failing is so common to us humans, repentance becomes divine by it's very nature, by raising us up from our faults so we can do better, and in that way, raising us above our very human nature. This is why every man must open his mind and listen to counsel, for in that way we get to be conscious of our actions and the faults in them.
