Inktober Day 16: Wild
dawag na matinik, gubat na mapanglaw
Francisco Balagtas in Florante at Laura
That line above from the famous Filipino literature entitled Florante at Laura is my inspiration in interpreting today's inktober prompt which is wild. I drew a jungle scene filled with wild plants and trees.
Dawag is a kind of thistle. Matinik means thorny. Gubat is jungle and mapanglaw means gloomy. That is how this scene is meant.
I started with a bark of tree using a medium sized brush
Using the same brush I added this banana with a big bunch of fruits to give it a familiar look. Here in the Philippines we have them in abundance
To give this drawing some depth I added a line leading the eye far away into the horizon. A mound of ant hill in the middle would be another familiar detail. We actually associate the ant hill with a folkloric being we call the nuno sa punso Nuno is a small Elf like creature that looks old with white long beard. Punso is the ant hill itself. The nuno is said to be seen on top of an ant hill.
Hope you guys like it and learned a bit about this folk lore.
Cheers
Ally
